Mercedes-Benz Debuts Entry-Level Sprinter Worker Van Shaving $4,000 Off Its Price

|

Not only does the new Sprinter Worker van cost $4,000 less than the current base Sprinter 2500 at $32,495 (plus a $995 destination fee), but it actually looks cooler riding on those black steel wheels.

This is a no-nonsense commercial van that can be had in any color as long as its…white, to paraphrase Henry Ford’s most famous quote, though you do get to choose between the 2500 and heavy duty 3500 chassis.

The same frugal theme continues inside where you get a sea of plastic with standard features limited to power windows, air-conditioning, adjustable armrests and steering wheel, and a 4-speaker audio system with Bluetooth. Oh, there are also 5 cup holders scattered around the cabin, while 6 airbags, the Crosswind Assist and Load-Adaptive Traction Control (ESP) systems come as standard.

The Sprinter Worker is powered by a 2.1-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel that has its work cut out (pun intended) delivering 161hp and 266 lb-ft of torque from 1,400 rpms, connected to 7G-TRONIC 7-speed transmission offering a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. and a maximum payload of 3,512 lbs. It’s worth mentioning that Mercedes says the Sprinter has a best-in-class service interval of up to 20,000 miles.

Riding on a 144 inch wheelbase, the Sprinter Worker boasts a 137.4 inch cargo floor length and 66.5 inch interior standing height, for 319.1-cubic-feet of cargo volume. It can also carry up to 660 lbs on its roof.

If you want to splurge on yourself, Mercedes offers three optional packages:

  • The CONVENIENCE Package ($1,499) includes: Heated Power Mirrors, Cruise Control, Automatic Light and Rain Sensor (for windshield wipers), Multifunction Steering Wheel with Enhanced Info Screen and Trailer Hitch Pre- wiring
  • The UTILITY Package ($2,999) includes all contents in CONVENIENCE Package, plus: Wood Cargo Floor, Rear Step, LED Lights in Cargo Compartment, Two Additional Keys (4 total), Glass in Rear Cargo Doors and Grab-handles (left/right rear door)
  • The OVERTIME Package ($4,499) includes all contents in both CONVENIENCE and UTILITY packages, plus: Upgraded Audio System, Highbeam Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Rear View Camera, First Aid Kit and Emergency Flashlight
The new Sprinter addition is available for order now in the States.
