Originally unveiled last year in Frankfurt, the Leon Cupra 290 makes a comeback with a new set of images.

Offered in three body styles, Sport coupe, five-door hatch and ST estate, it comes with front-wheel drive and a standard six-speed manual or an optional DSG. The 0-100km/h time is the same as the the Cupra 280’s 5.7seconds with the dual-clutch and 5.8 seconds with the manual gearbox, and its top speed is 250 km/h (155 mph).

These numbers come from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot, which develops 290PS (286hp) and 350Nm (258lb-ft) of torque that are available between 1,700 and 5,800rpm, up from 280PS (276hp) of the Cupra 280.

Fuel consumption for both Leon and Leon SC Cupra 290 is 6.5l/100km (36.26.7mpg US) with the DSG and 6.7L/100km (35.1mpg US) with the manual, while CO2 emissions vary between 149g/km and 156g/km.

The standard DCC (dynamic chassis control), front-axle differential lock, progressive steering, handling control and Cupra Drive Profile can be enhanced with the optional Performance pack that adds Brembo brake calipers, exclusive wheel design and special tires.

The Cupra 290 is differentiated by the unique 19-inch wheels, covering the red brake calipers with CUPRA lettering, Aeordynamic Pack with roof spoiler and black side mirror housings. There are also three individualization options available, White Line, Black Line and Orange Line, with exterior details painted in the respective colors.

It has standard LED lights on both ends, light and rain sensors, auto dimming rearview mirror and high beam assistant. Sports seats are wrapped in Alcantara, there is a Cupra steering wheel, Media System Plus with a 6.5-inch color touch screen, MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Climatronic, optional navigation and Connect App, added to safety features such as front assist with city emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
