With Jaguar tackling almost every profitable premium segment, the next logical step is towards electric vehicles.

Over the past decade, Jaguar has blossomed from a conservative into a veritable brand offering state-of-the-art technology and innovative design, catching up with the automotive world’s rapidly changing pace.

Talking to AutoGuide at the New York International Auto Show, design director Ian Callum said that an EV is definitely on the cards.

“Within two years, we’ll have something that’s not driven by a petrol engine – just a couple of hamsters.” Big ones, we presume…

However, it isn’t clear right now whether the future automobile will be based on an existing platform or will be a new model altogether. Jaguar has filed patents for the “EV-Type” moniker, as well as the “I-Type” and “I-Pace” nameplates.
