Volvo’s modified V60 Polestar will lead this year’s WTCC field starting with this season-opening race at Circuit Paul Ricard on April 1-3rd.

The V60 Polestar Safety Car comes with a roll cage, rescue and communication equipment and a crew of two, consisting of the driver and one observer. According to Volvo, this is the, em, safest safety car ever to assume this role at the World Touring Car Championship.

“it was an easy decision to start a cooperation with the WTCC on the Official Safety Car. This allows us to close the circle from track to road by showcasing customers the take-home alternative of our racing car technology in the form of the Volvo V60 Polestar Safety Car, at the same time being part of the vital and extensive safety work of the championship.”, said Polestar head of motorsport Murdzevski Schedvin.

For his part, head of Eurosport Events Francois Ribeiro commented: “Last October we welcomed Polestar’s long-term commitment to the WTCC as a manufacturer. Now we welcome Polestar as the new Official Safety Car partner of the WTCC, an exclusive opportunity which will allow them to promote their extremely safe and high-performing V60 Polestar flagship model around the world”.

As a product of 20 years of motorsport experience, the V60 Polestar (owner of a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating) has been engineered to deliver a superior driving experience regardless of weather, though Polestar Cyan Racing factory drivers Thed Björk, Robert Dahlgren and Fredrik Ekblom also had a hand in the car’s development.
