The first production examples of the Alfa Romeo Giulia have rolled off the assembly line at FCA’s Cassino plant in Italy.

The new Giulia will be offered initially with one 200hp petrol and two 150hp and 180hp diesel units in Europe and a 280hp petrol in the US, when it reaches this side of the Atlantic.

Petrol versions will be offered with an eight-speed automatic gearbox only for the time being but Alfa promises that by the end of the year it will add the option of a six-speed manual gearbox, as well as the 280hp petrol engine in Europe’s range and a 210hp version of the 2.2-litre diesel unit.

The first production Giulia was painted in grey rather surprisingly and represents a big step for the Italian firm who has seen its recent plans being pushed back due to multiple reasons.

The big news though is that the Giulia is finally in production and it will not take long before we start seeing them on our roads. Let’s hope the reviews will justify the hype.
