The popular Need for Speed franchise is bound to get a new release next year, with the company behind it, Ghost Games, having already started working on it.

There aren’t any specific details on the upcoming racing game yet, but the announcement is official and has been posted by GhostGames:

We are now building upon the foundations that have been laid with Need for Speed and delivering our next game in 2017. That’s not to say that we’re going quiet between now and then… far from it. We’ll be working with our community and there will be multiple opportunities to bring many of you into the studio in the coming months to get your feedback on where we’re headed.

Gamers’ feedback brought features such as SpeedLists, Snapshot Pro, Customization, Wrap Sharing and Manual Transmission to the latest NFS, which arrived in 2015. SpeedLists will be the last free content update for this game and a new Community Event that will kick off this weekend will allow players to earn an extra $1,000 in-game credits from all Drag Races.

The latest stats reveal that gamers collected over 9.8 billion REP points on the roads of Ventura Bay, taken over 35 million Snapshots, beaten a total of 52 million Eddie’s Challenge Events and race in over 10 million Drag Races. 950 minutes have been spent customizing cars and the total in-game cash earned stands at $2.5 trillion.
