Police authorities are searching for the driver of a red 2003 Nissan 350Z who fled the scene of an accident after plowing into a Californian home landing on top of a four-year boy’s bed Thursday morning.

The child and an 18-year old relative who was in the bedroom at the time of the accident both escaped with minor injuries.

The younger boy’s grandfather and older boy’s father, David Mazon, who was sleeping in the next room, jumped out of his bed and busted through the jammed door. “I heard this loud crash,” Mazon told CBS News. “I knew exactly what it was because this has happened before, but not to this house.”

It took him, his son, his wife and a police officer who had arrived at the scene, around 10 minutes to free the boy. “He was conscious, he was just crying. He was more scared than anything,” Mazon said, adding that the boy and the teen were both taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released.

Nine other people living in the home were not injured, but have now been displaced from their house pending an inspection of the building.

The driver and passenger of the Nissan sports car fled before officers came to the house.  Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials told reporters that they believe the driver who was not named is likely hiding somewhere in the neighborhood.
