In Aston Martins, usually the DB initials, which pay tribute to brand founder David Brown, are followed by a number. Not this time.

Confirmed by AutoGuide, the info states that DBZ can be used on “passenger cars, racing cars and car bodies“, but securing it with the European trademark office doesn’t necessarily mean it will grace a production model, as it is common for manufacturers to reserve certain nameplates in order to prevent rivals from using them.

Still, we venture a guess that the Z could stand short for Zagato if the concept co-developed with the Italian design house that was displayed two weeks ago gets a (limited, probably)production run. Aston Martin has other vehicles in the pipeline that could use the DBZ badge, though, ranging from an all-electric Rapide to the upcoming road-legal hypercar, for which the carmaker has teamed up with Red Bull.

Code-named Project AM-RB 001, the latter is rumored to debut this summer, with a total weight of less than 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs) and the ability to lap a track as fast as an LMP1 or F1 racer. It should be assembled in a limited number of just 99 units, all of which have been reportedly spoken for.
