Fresh off the GT R‘s online reveal, Merc is celebrating its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

In the lead-up to its unveiling, AMG was keen to stress just how beastly the GT R is, dubbing it the ‘Beast of the Green Hell‘. Appropriately then, the car displayed at Goodwood has been caged as if it’s a 577 hp-powered lion.

In the flesh, the most obvious thing about the new car is its paint job. The lovely shade of matte green adds that extra dash of aggression and animalism to the GT which ordinarily, is a curvaceous sports car dominated by flowing lines and smooth edges.

Adding to the new paint are a host of bespoke aerodynamic components and special body panels. There’s larger wheel arches, a towering rear wing, redesigned front grille and intakes as well as 10-spoke 20-inch forged wheels.

In terms of power, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 has been tweaked to now deliver some 577 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. When combined with a modified dual-clutch transmission and a 50 kg reduction in weight, Mercedes-AMG claims a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time of 3.6 seconds and a 318 km/h (198 mph) top speed, although we suspect it could easily pass the 200 mph mark.
