With the LaFerrari now joining the 918 Spyder as a full-fledged convertible hybrid hypercar, the only one of those deadly rival that lacks an open-top version is the P1.

For pure driving thrills a coupe might be better, but a. pushing them to the limit is not for everyone, b. there’s a great number of owners that purchase them for the “wow” factor, and c. a convertible is more appealing, especially in places such as Southern California.

This illustration comes courtesy of Virtuel-Car and you kind of get the feeling that if the P1 Spider was actually real, it could definitely be tempting for some millionaires who could miss out on the LaFerrari Aperta.

McLaren’s 675LT Spider was admittedly the inspiration for this rendering, with its entire upper part practically copied lock, stock and barrel and bolted on the P1, which is what Woking would probably do, too.

The 918 Spyder has already beaten the Ferrari and the Macca fair and square in every test, proving that removing the hard top most definitely does not impede dynamics if the rest of the package is carefully sorted out. Besides, this doesn’t make the “losers” any less mega and, besides, some tenths of a second don’t really matter that much except when it comes to bragging rights.

Now that we can add this hypothetical P1 Spider to the conversation, would you take it over the Ferrari or the Porsche?
