With fewer than 400 made, seeing a McLaren P1 is a rare sight. Seeing one in Japan, where imported cars are few and far between, even more so. Seeing one that’s used on a regular basis is even more of a rarity. But this particular example of the hybrid hypercar ticks all those boxes.

It belongs to one Go Hiramatsu, a lawyer based in Tokyo, Japan. While most P1s are likely used only occasionally, Hiramatsu-san uses it on a regular basis, commuting from his home to his office in the downtown Ginza district. And come the weekend, he pushes it even harder.

When he’s not meeting up with other owners and enthusiasts, he takes it to let its stretch its legs around the Fuji International Speedway, once home to the Japanese Grand Prix that McLaren has won more than any other team. And when the mood strikes, he takes it up the Hakone Turnpike, the hillclimb toll road known as Japan’s equivalent of the Nürburgring, and where we recently saw a 650S (like Hiramatsu’s second car) doing its thing.

All of which makes us think that maybe we went into the wrong line of work.
