Of all the recalls we see on a regular basis, we can’t recall a single one for police cars. But that’s just what we have here.

Chevy has issued a recall notice for two of its rear-drive sedans for a problem with their seat belt tensioners. The problem is that repeated entry and exit from the vehicle could wear down the tensioner cable and cause it to fail, leaving the driver’s side seat belt ineffective.

The issue affects an estimated 15,486 sedans in the United States alone, including the SS performance sedan and the Caprice Police Pursuit vehicle – specifically those manufactured between May 14, 2013 and April 27, 2016 (and on to June 14 in the case of the Caprice).

Both models are manufactured in Elizabeth, Australia, on Chevy’s behalf by its sister brand Holden. They won’t be for much longer, though, as GM is shutting down Holden’s manufacturing operations entirely.
