Lamborghini is set to cap its annual supercar production at 3,500 units as the firm braces for the arrival of the Urus SUV.

The automaker believes that when the Urus arrives, its annual production figures will more than double to 7,000 vehicles annually.

Despite that, chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali revealed to Reuters that the brand will remain committed to the performance and exclusivity of its supercars.

“We will not, clearly, give up on our DNA, which is to produce super sportcars,” the former Ferrari F1 chief said.

As part of Lamborghini’s expansion with the Urus, it will expand its worldwide dealer network from 132 to 160 outlets, about 30 per cent of which will be located in the United States.

Given Ferrari’s intention to lift production of its cars to 9,000 units per year, it is a relief to hear that Lamborghini won’t go down the same route with its sports cars.
