Prototypes of the updated 2018MY Mercedes-Benz S-Class have been flirting with cameras over the past months, but unlike (most) other videos, this one was shot in Ultra HD.

Normally, this means it’s easier to spot some of the visual adjustments carried on top of the current model, but its light camouflage that continues to surround the lighting units and bumpers on both ends, forbid us from taking an in-depth look.

Designers and engineers have been working together to pump new blood into the cabin, adding more advanced technologies that include a new infotainment system with a touchpad controller and gesture controls, along with a redesigned steering wheel. One of the most important updates will be the addition of a new Drive Pilot semi-autonomous system, which will assist drivers during long commutes.

Things aren’t so clear when it comes to the powertrain lineup, but we could be looking at two possible scenarios: the addition of the new M256 straight-six mills or slightly improved versions of the existing V6s.

Mercedes-Benz is believed to lift the veils off the 2018 S-Class next year, possibly as early as the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, but the luxury flagship saloon isn’t expected to reach German dealerships until summer of the same year.
