Rumors of a possible long wheelbase version of the latest Volvo S90 have been around for quite some time now, but they have recently started to transition into reality.

Aimed primarily at the People’s Republic with extra rear legroom, the upcoming Volvo S90L will be exported outside the Asian country to markets such as the United States and Europe, according to one of the company’s executives, cited by AutoNews.

The statement comes a week after Volvo China’s Sales Chief, Yuan Xiaolin, announced the manufacturer’s plans to export the sedan, during the Chengdu Auto Show. However, when asked about such a move, a spokesperson at the brand’s headquarters in Sweden said that no official decision has been made.

Volvo is expected to kick off China production of the S90L by the end of this year, at its Daqing facility. The model will be the fifth Volvo produced in the People’s Republic, after the XC60 crossover, first-gen XC90 and long wheelbase versions of the S60 and S80, and it will also be the automaker’s second model to be exported from the Asian country, after the S60 Inscription, which has traveled from Daqing to the United States.
