The Renault-Nissan Alliance are acquiring Fa rench software-development company as part of their plan to accelerate the expansion of connected vehicle and mobility service.

Announced by Ogi Redzic, who was appointed to lead the mobility and connectivity services team in January, the acquisition will help the two automakers launch more than 10 vehicles with autonomous drive technology by 2020.

The Sylpheo team of software developers and cloud engineers joining the Alliance will have a unique opportunity to work on our next generation of connected cars and other advanced technologies. They will be playing a critical role in this new era of tremendous change for the global auto industry“, Redzic said. “The acquisition of Sylpheo is just one of many steps Renault-Nissan Alliance is taking to ensure its continued innovation leadership in the automotive industry.

The acquisition will help support the two automakers in their commitment towards creating a future with zero-emission vehicles and no fatalities by allowing them to implement advanced technology on mass-produced cars and offer them at competitive prices.

Renault and Nissan have been holding hands since 1999 and last year alone, the two companies sold 8.5 million vehicles in almost 200 countries worldwide. The Alliance sees strategic collaborations with Daimler, Mitsubishi Motors and Dongfeng, and owns a majority stake in AvtoVaz, which is Russia’s top automaker.
