Hot versions of the Captur and Kadjar could be on Renault’s menu of possible future products, as an exec within the company has recently confirmed.

This contradicts a previous report that ruled out such variants, though it doesn’t mean that the two models have been given the green light for production either, according to AutoExpress, which is citing the brand’s Executive Vice President of Product Planning and Programs.

A Renaultsport SUV? Why not? SUVs are highly relevant in this kind of range. We have made some prototypes and for SUVs we have no doubt that it works. Look to the competitors – many of them are doing that and it works. So it works for Captur and it works for the Nissan Juke“, Ancelin said, admitting that the French are “looking for synergies with Nismo” when it comes to a possible development of a Renaultsport SUV.

If Renault eventually decides to give the Captur RS a go, then expect the subcompact crossover to gain an aggressive body kit, larger wheels, a tuned suspension and probably the same 1.6-liter turbocharged mill that powers the Nissan Juke Nismo, since the two models share the same architecture. As for a possible Kadjar RS, this version could also get a few exterior tweaks, along with chassis improvements, but it’s not clear yet what engine could set it in motion.
