Electric vehicle startup Workhorse has just previewed and announced the development of its first range-extended electric pickup truck.
The company says the model is being built by an existing OEM in the U.S. and is on track to become the first plug-in electric pickup on the market when it arrives in 2018.
In the floor of the pickup will be Panasonic battery cells giving the vehicle 80 miles of electric range. That range will increase significantly however when combined with the petrol-powered range extender set to come standard on all vehicles sold, increasing the range to 310 miles.
As with range-topping Tesla models, the Workhorse pickup will have an electric motor at the front and one at the rear, offering excellent traction and versatility.
Workhorse says the pickup will feature lightweight composite body panels and be underpinned by a high-strength stainless steel frame. Alongside the large pickup bed, the model will include a small frunk compartment complete with high and low voltage power outlets.
The company hasn’t said when it expects to begin testing the pickup or when it will be revealed in full.
