Hot hatches are all the rage nowadays, and there’s a chance Volkswagen may look to cash in by taking the latest-generation Polo to previously unexplored heights.

In 2012, the German brand affixed its R badge to the supermini with the limited-edition Polo R WRC Street, but a serious-production Polo R never saw the light of day. While no confirmation has been given about whether that will change for the new car, X-Tomi Design has rendered a new Polo R anyway, with rather nice results.

As you’d expect, the hot hatch takes the edgy design of the Polo R-Line to new extremes with a larger front grille, remodelled air intake surrounds and an altogether sharper and more aggressive design along with the 20-inch Dark Graphite wheels of the Arteon.

If VW were to create a Polo R, it is inevitable that it would also transform the rear with a slew of upgrades including a bespoke exhaust and custom trimmings. Will it happen? Highly unlikely in our opinion, but then again you never know, do you?
