The upcoming BMW X2 was spotted again in prototype form, only this time it was loaded on a truck and the camouflage was significantly lighter.

From what we can see from the images, the production version of the BMW X2 will retain more than a few elements from the concept we saw last year at the Paris Auto Show.

It’s the first time we can see the details of the aggressive front bumper which features triangular sections and air ducts, mimicking the style of the X2 Concept.

You can also spot the long hood’s angle towards the kidney grille and the angry design of the headlights which still remain under camouflage. As seen on previous scoops, the new BMW X2 will definitely offer one of the most attractive shapes in the premium corner of the compact SUV segment.

Underneath the modern bodywork, the BMW X2 will share its hardware with its sister model, the X1. That means that the 2018 X2 will be offered with front-wheel drive as standard, with all-wheel drive equipping the more powerful versions.

In the US, the new BMW X2 will be reportedly offered in three versions: the entry-level sDrive28i, the mid-range xDrive28i and the range-topping xDrive 35i. Europe will get a wider range of petrol engines, as well as the usual range of diesel powerplants. Don’t be surprised if BMW decides to equip the new X2 with an updated plug-in hybrid powertrain from the existing 225xe Active Tourer.

BMW is planning to pull the wraps off the new X2 at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
