BMW’s V12-Powered M760i Is Definitely Great – But Is It $180k Or Two 740is Great?

One of the main issues with purchasing a luxury car in flagship trim is that you will inevitably end up comparing it to how much that same car would have cost with a lesser engine.

For example, the BMW M760i is twice as expensive as an entry-level 740i. On the other hand, as Doug DeMuro points out in his review, it does have a lot going for it. From its twin-turbo V12 that churns out 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque to its luxurious and extremely advanced interior features, you would be hard pressed to find many properly competitive alternatives.

According to DeMuro, the M760i is as special as they come. He walked away extremely impressed by all the technological marvels brought forth by the flagship Bimmer, like the the smart key, gesture controls, advanced 360-degree camera system and the tablet which allows you to control just about everything.

He also enjoyed the car’s high overall comfort levels, its surprisingly good soundtrack and its straight line performance; its 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 3.6 seconds is actually quicker than that of an M4.

Until now, the highest-ranking luxury saloon DeMuro has ever reviewed was the 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo. Did the M760i manage to outscore it? Click the video below and thou shall find out.

Just wait…and pick it up for 35-40k in 5 yrs. Then…budget for a full electric conversion.Such that your’e chuckling at the folly of those who try to maintain a luxocruiser out-of-warranty.

    • Matt

What’s the point of the electric conversion? 60% of the car’s ‘value’ is in the power train. Remove that and you may as well have brought the diesel.

      • DR.FUNK

The depreciation on these critters is brutal already. Gotta figure it’ll only get worse as more electric retrofit concerns start popping up. Especially if they offer as good / or better performance and reliability than the too-many-expensive-moving-parts I.C.E. it replaces.

        • Matt

You can’t make these modern ICE cars electric easily. There are so many motors and sensors and ECU’s for steering and brakes and safety equipment that you’d need to have designed the electronic infrastructure yourself to successfully remove entire parts of it and still make everything work properly.

Much easier to electrify an older more ‘analogue’ vehicle.

    • S3XY

This car should be electric in the first place. Lots of space for batteries. But no, BMW makes a clown car and a measly range exotic EV to start.

      • LWOAP

All those batteries would have made it heavier and more expensive with less range. You didn’t think that one through, did you?

      • Six_Tymes

“clown car” bahahahahaha!!!! ill never see the i3 any other way ever again after that comment. THAT is funny! and spot on really.

      • disqus_8YchtRit8p

        There’s a hybrid 7.

  • NOTING ABOUT THIS SAYS $180K. LOOKING AT THE MB SEAT VIDEO YOU CAN SEE THEY’RE IN A DIFFERENT LEAGUE.

    • disqus_8YchtRit8p

      Esp. M-B videogame dashboard.

For some people that’s a good week’s pay. If you have FU money and are smart enough to not buy a Tesla then sure….

    • Bash

LOL “….smart enough to not buy a Tesla then sure….”
      That actually made my day!

    • S3XY

My Tesla says FU when I slam the accelerator and take off on whatever gas car is beside me.

      • TheHake

And that sound it makes oooooohhhhhhh! Pure sensation!

      • LWOAP

Can’t outrun issues with build quality, though.

      • Bo Hanan

And you only get 1 good acceleration per day- then back to the charger. And let’s not even begin to talk about handling. Or going into limp-mode because the stress of the attempted g’s confuses the ECU.

        • disqus_8YchtRit8p

          Or gridlock: 0-0.

    • TheHake

      You just made my day!

  • Bash

Although I love it, plus its really a nice to have a V12 now, giving the fact that its almost gone!, but i would pick 2-740s.. its just me tho.

    • S3XY

      V12 LOL

      • Bash

Yeah, those are amazing engines, very refined and becoming more rare with every day passes. u know. ;), you should get one while you can, lol

    • TheHake

      Or a 740 and a Land Cruiser.

      • Bash

Nice, but I’m not into SUV’s, regardless of how fine they are. I’d rather stick to sedans for as much as i can until the SUV’s virus is so spread and not avoidable anymore. LOL

      • Bo Hanan

        Smart!

  • Belthronding

    So basically M refers Motorsport.
On the other hand we have this car which is around 2500 kgs as heavy as abraham tank, plus it is extremely long like a train.
Am i the one missing the point of m badge or is it just bmw m department?

    • disqus_8YchtRit8p

M here means 0-60 in 3.6 limo secs.
