Whoever was driving this BMW SUV definitely didn’t want to end up in police custody, possibly because the X5 was stolen.

The incident took place in Slovakia, where a recent patch of snowy weather made the roads predominantly unfriendly to people whose goal was to drive really quickly while evading the law. Based on the description of the video, the suspect was eventually captured after fleeing the vehicle.

And yes, of course there was a crash, because all-wheel drive isn’t going to save you when you’re already going way too fast on snow and ice, and climbing on the brakes as soon as you approach a turn.

As far as we can tell, the X5 slid towards the sidewalk as the driver attempted to make a left turn under braking, suffering catastrophic rear-axle damage before spinning to a halt. That’s when the suspect jumps out of the car and does his best Usain Bolt impersonation out of frame.

Not that we’d want to lend an informative hand to any potential escape artists out there, but if you’re trying to make a turn in slippery conditions and you’re already going to fast, braking hard is the last thing you should be doing. In fact, trusting the car’s all-wheel drive system and applying some throttle would be your best hope.
