Mercedes-Maybach’s Ultimate Luxury Concept Is Not The Posh GLS We Were Waiting For

Less than a week before its world premiere at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show, the Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury Concept has leaked online in all of its glory.

As you can see, the vehicle is not exactly a Maybach version of the new GLS, as it was previously reported. It actually looks more like a high-riding luxury sedan. It does get a sexy face though, inspired by the Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 studies, a strange rear end, sleek profile, lots of chrome accessories, jacked-up suspension and turbine-style alloy wheels.

The images, leaked by Mercedes-Benz themselves, provide us with access into the cabin too, which combines white leather with wood accents and more chrome trim. The top of the dashboard is wrapped in brown leather, and uses the same pattern as the front grille for the air vents.

Various Maybach-branded parts, such as the seats, steering wheel, pedals and center console set the Ultimate Luxury Concept apart furthermore, along with the lounge-like rear passenger compartment, with seating for two. Notice that there’s no champagne here, but a Chinese tea set and some flowers.

Given that the leaked pictures aren’t exactly accompanied by an extensive press release, we cannot tell you what powers the new Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury Concept. Still, we could be looking at either an electrified powertrain, or a V8 engine. Hopefully, the German automaker won’t wait until April 25 to detail it.

Suv trends going to bullshit . And mercedes/maybach copy BMW’s grill

    • Stephen G

      Who said SUV?

  • kimbentsen

    No way!

  • iea96

That rear end deserves an award for hideousness!

  • AxlRock

The feeling when your date turns out to be b*tt ugly

  • Mat

I haven’t seen such hideous design for a very…very…long time. What a mess!!!!

    • O123

Last one was that Lagonda concept

  • Matt

Very unusual… but a lot of very interesting design features too.

In my opinion it’s actually one of the more fascinating new concept cars, just for its sheer unconventionality.

  • Mr_Fanta_Pants
    • Craig

      Now THAT’S nice!

    • RS6 Performance Wagon Lover

      Wow, that’s remarkably accurate!

  • Craig

Gosh! The AMC Eagle really WAS way ahead of its time!

  • Ary Wisesa

Well, I’m open to any idea. But I really find it very difficult to accept the rear design. Perhaps if it’s designed with more conventional wagon back-styling, it could look a lot less awkward. The “sedan” design looks so uninspiring, especially if it’s looked at from above (pic no 5).

The bonnet and grilles look OK for me. And the interior is beautiful and promising.

Just ditch its rear end, and it could be much easier to digest. 😛

  • Kagan

    Another Bentagya!

  • Autoexperte

    it looks so ugly

  • enthusia

i expected them to copy and paste the front facia, as mercedes always does, but the rear…… why… it’s hideous.
nevertheless, i’m sure some millionaire in beverly hills just creamed their pants

  • Oh no, illegitimate son of the Bentayga…ugly…

  • GT

Next step will be making it lower and then we’ve gone full circle. Back to the sedan.

What za heck is going on with Benz design team

  • Belthronding

it is very clear that bmw or audi is paying mercedes designers to ruin their company.otherwise this could not be for real.

  • Trocadero

    Reminds me of a 1960’s Austin 1800

  • Erzhik

    So it’s a donk.

  • Mrhug3

This is beyond terrible. It honestly looks like one of those copycat, knockoff vehicles that some regions are known for.

  • TheHake

  • B. D.

    Think Full Metal Jacket.

What is this? WHAT THE F*** IS THIS?!

  • nellydesign

The problem here is all one of proportion. It’s not like it’s badly surfaced or not cohesive. It just looks like they scaled up a toy. The sedan shape combined with the high ride height and large wheels just screams “Tonka!”. It’s hilariously bad and I can’t believe it made it this far without someone within Mercedes calling it out.

  • Leconte Dave

    Straight up ugly…

  • Steve Cohn

Looks like the entire Lada styling department has replaced the MBenz designers.

  • TheBelltower

    Gaudy AF

You mean nicer, though it still isn’t nice

      • Андрей Игорев

I wanted to write so more habitually and more customarily for our eyes)

  • lagunas3ca

What’s the point of dividing the rear windshield?

    • Matt

Style? Throwback to Art Deco-inspired car design?

Split rear window is a unique styling touch.

  • Bob

    Uh what?

  • Marty
    • supermanuel

      You actually did.

    • Bob

      No really, wow!

      • Marty

Thanks, It’s took some highly advanced Photoshop tricks. 🙂
But seriously, the details make more sense with better proportions – the clean lines create some W123 vibes.

        • Bob

Yes! Now I’m going to be disappointed if the next S-Class doesn’t look like this!

  • The front facia and side looks like Levante to me, and the back? Well more like hunchback.

    • LWOAP

They’re creating a new niche so they can fill it.

      • Perry F. Bruns

The only niche this thing should fill is a recycling center.

  • Nordschleife

This personally is a fail in my opinion. I wasn’t fond of the interior and now seeing all of it just confirms my opinion of the interior and now a dislike of the exterior. But I applaud them for their effort.

  • TrevP

    Suddenly, I love the Benteyga.

  • Subi-Rubicon1

My brain is trying to make sense out of this, I like it but I don’t? Its confusing AF.

    How about no?

  • Elpatore

I think they didn’t get it out on time for april fools.

  • Perry F. Bruns

It’s expensive, ugly, needlessly extravagant, and useless.

This is the Zack Snyder movie of automobiles.

  • Cool guy

  • Maximilian Norlande Rabbitt

I actually don’t see anything wrong with it. Anyone who sees a presidential limousine and thinks “I want one” will want one of these because it’s easily comparable. A high riding ultra luxury “sedan” that’s based on a non sedan/multipurpose chassis. While it’s not bulletproof, it still follows the same suit of a car that isn’t a car

    • Maximilian Norlande Rabbitt

Also, I’m assuming the power is the same or similar to the convertible/cabrio/let because that split hood could easily be a frunk

  • Central Lifestyle

Mercedes need to be ashamed of themselves. What is this garbage design?

  • Ruel Lewis

Idk what Gordon Wagner and the Mercedes design team were thinking when they thought it was a good to design an SUV like a sedan. Mercedes confuses me a lot because how can they go from that beautiful convertible concept to this.

  • Stephen G

Who said SUV? Nobody needs another station wagon.

  • Stephen G

Finally a decent car you don’t have to fall into or climb into. Now just get rid of “the great wall of China” running through the middle of the interior.

  • SteersUright

Its hideous. What else is there to say?

  • Point

Am I the only one on the planet who likes this car?

  • wait a minute

a slammed version of this might be ok, but jacking it up to a SUV makes it fugly.

  • ErnieB

Wtf is this!!! Wtf is happening to ultra luxury brands and creating ugly SUVs! SMH!!

  • ErnieB

These brands better do better market research.. only luxury SUV worth buying right now is the Lincoln Navigator and better yet the Aviator— most beautiful suv to be available..

  • Jesse A. C. Majors

    My eyes

  • Jesse A. C. Majors

Rule #1 never make and suv look like a sedan. Omg

  • cbATL

    This looks cartoonish not luxurious.

  • Charles Lane

    Go home Mercedes you drunk.

  • Bob

I just read up on some of this car’s features. This might just be the ugliest car that I would buy.
