Range-Topping Genesis G70 V6 To Pack 365HP And Hit 60 MPH In 4.5s

As we edge closer to the launch of the G70 compact executive sedan, Genesis has released more details as well as some performance figures on its brand new 3 Series-rivaling four-door car.

The much awaited 2019 Genesis G70 premium sport sedan wants to reset the segment’s benchmarks by offering class-leading driver-focused performance, refined luxury, as well as attractive and athletic styling.

Genesis says that the G70 has among the strongest body structures in the segment, with its architecture making strategic use of aluminum, high-grade steel and aerospace-grade adhesives.

The new Genesis G70 also has the lowest overall height and widest overall stance in the segment, giving it exceptional dynamic performance. Aerodynamically-speaking, the new compact premium saloon returns a sleek 0.28Cd drag coefficient.

Entry-level models will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with direct injection producing 252hp and 260lb-ft (352 Nm) of peak torque. The turbo-four engine will be paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard but more keen drivers will be happy to find out that Genesis will also offer a six-speed manual in the options list.

Manual G70s will be offered with a performance package that includes a slightly more powerful engine (255hp over 252hp), a unique sport exhaust system, high-performance Brembo brakes and additional weight reduction measures. Genesis didn’t offer more details on that last part.

The range-topping twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 version will offer 365hp and 376 lb-ft (510 Nm) of peak torque, which will be available only with the eight-speed auto transmission. Combine this with the standard mechanical limited-slip differential -optional in the turbo four variant- and Genesis’ Launch Control, and the rear-drive G70 V6 can hit 60mph in 4.5 seconds.

Both engines will be offered with all-wheel drive as an option too. Genesis says that the combination of a rear mechanical limited-slip differential with all-wheel drive is unique in the segment and provides sharper handling than its main competitors.

Expect more details, as well as pricing information in the next few weeks as we get closer to the new Genesis G70’s launch.

lovely interior! looks way better than glossy “pianoblack” nightmare in a new audis….

    • Spyder Hole Fantome

      You are correct, sir!

    • Infinite1

I can understand if it was matte black that has the least amount of smudging but that piano black is just a nightmare to keep clean

    • Bash

      True that man!

    • dumblikeyou2

What? But Audi’s have the best interiors in the business. Isn’t that what we’ve been told to believe since the early 2000’s?

      • Jim Ragland

        Yup…:-).

  • iea96

    Those wheels look pretty sweet

    • Bash

The entire car is pretty sweet!

  • Harry Nimmergut

Why on earth isn’t this thing on sale already? The Stinger has been out for a year. Any more delays and it’ll give the Supra/Z4 a run for their $.

    • iea96

It has literally not a single common point with the upcoming Supra/Z4

      • Andrewthecarguy

        Yes it does 🙂
I was wondering the same thing. Such a rando comment

      • eb110americana

I think he is referring to the zero-to-it’s-not-ready-yet delay times.

    • bd0007

Problem getting dealerships to agree with who gets Genesis franchises.

Canada didn’t have this issue as they have a direct to consumer distribution channel.

  • Andrewthecarguy

If 4.5 to 60 is true, then that plus the price point might be the watershed moment for the Genesis brand. The upcoming 3 Series would need to worry.

  • So it’s not only a beauty but a beast as well, me like!

  • S3XY

Just looks cheap. And it looks like the Giulia from the side

    • ctk4949

Talk about a cheap interior, thats Giulia. At least it doesnt have a stupid tablet stuck on top!!

  • ctk4949

All of it is really nice!! Except for the stupid ugly tablet stuck on top of the dash!! Wish they would have kept it integrated, like they have on the G80. 🙁

    • bd0007

B/c that would have required a higher dash, which would have made the interior feel more claustrophobic in a compact sedan like the G70 (which is small for the segment).

  • Brent Morrison

This won’t sell as much as Audis

    • Harrison Chien

agree… all about the “Brand Images”.

  • Honda NSX-R

I have a feeling that the 0-60 time is conservative…

  • Six Thousand Times

Not too shabby-looking. Great if you like your luxury without status-seeking.

  • SteersUright

Love it, but that damned hideous infotainment screen, couldn’t they do a much better job? In comparison to whats coming out of Audi and MB today, this look like a 15 year old interior.

    4.5 s sounds a bit optimistic without 4wd.
