The 2019 Audi A8 Comes Packed With Lovely Details And Impressive Tech

Luxury flagships are meant to offer the absolute best in technology and features, acting as halo cars for their makers – and the 2019 Audi A8 is a prime example of this practice.

It’s the first Audi to feature the company’s newest dashboard layout that includes three large displays, one for the instrument cluster and two for the infotainment and HVAC controls. That’s a lot of screens, but the gadgets don’t stop here.

The new Audi flagship is actually the first production model to offer a Level 3 autonomous driving system, but in reality this feature won’t be activated in the US until various infrastructural and legal issues are resolved. Until then, a classic Level 2 system will have to do.

Want more gadgets? How about a set of retractable air vents featuring touch-sensitive controls? Or electronic door handles? Perhaps the crystal clear surround-view camera system is the one that impresses you the most. Or maybe the three tablets for the rear passengers. You get the idea.

While the gadget count is pretty impressive, the chassis technologies do not lag behind. Rear-wheel steering system? Check. A camera-based active suspension that predicts bumps and tunes itself accordingly? Certainly.

Doug DeMuro managed to find a Euro-spec A8 in the U.S., so you can get a detailed tour of the new German flagship in the video linked below.

The 2019 Audi A8 Comes Packed With … fake exhaust tips?

  • Paul

I hope it doesn’t come with some goofy guy squatting next to it. 😉

    • ME

      That guy is annoying.

  • LOVE THE COLOR COMBO. HATE THE REAR.
WHOEVER CAN COME UP WITH SMUDGE-FREE PLASTIC IS GONNA MAKE A FORTUNE.
THE BACK SEAT LOOKS AS INVITING AS IT’S COMPETITORS.

  • TheBelltower

It doesn’t look bad. But damn, if it weren’t for the animated lighting, the exterior would be 90s retro.

  • Dennis James

I have never seen more waste of tech, money and R&D like in the Audi S8.

    • Miknik

I fully agree. It seems that nowadays premium brands – and here especially the German ones, and even more specially Audi – seem s to have lost focus at the tech front, and just add useless gadgets just to outnumber the useless gadgets of the competition. Seriously, most of the “quirks and features” listed are in my eyes absolutely useless for anyone but the sales man showing off the number of them (or doug for YouTube clicks), at the same time adding complicated and potentially irreparable future problems once the warranty is over, yet simple details like exhaust tips or some vents are fake.

    • Mr_Fanta_Pants

Good thing this is only the A8 then 😂

They have to justify the high price somehow. When even entry/mid-level cars already have things like push button start, automatic climate control, and nav, where are they to go? I agree that most of those features are more gimmicks, but if even one is quite useful to you personally, that might be enough to make the car resonate with you on an emotional level. What specific luxury features would you opt for or invent?

The way you talk with your hands is extremely annoying. Can you speak with your hands in your pockets?

  • G82FS

That thing is hideous, I have seen better rear ends on transport vehicles…

Wow that car is as long as Doug Demuro’s videos
