2019 BMW Z4 M40i Revealed Ahead Of Pebble Beach Debut

Several pictures of 2019 BMW Z4 surfaced over the weekend and now we’re getting our first detailed glimpse at the upcoming model.

Shown here in M40i guise, the model closely resembles the concept as it features a sporty front fascia and sweptback headlights. The car has also been equipped with front fender vents, a long hood and a rakish windscreen. We can also see two roll bar hoops and five-spoke wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system with blue calipers.

The sporty styling continues at the rear as the Z4 M40i has a ventilated rear bumper and a relatively short trunk with an integrated spoiler. Other notable styling features include slender taillights, a dual exhaust system and a rear diffuser with metallic accents.

The biggest reveal is the interior which is sporty and high-tech. Drivers sit behind a three-spoke steering wheel and face a digital instrument cluster which is similar to the one used on the 8-Series Coupe.

The center stack is topped by an iDrive infotainment system which is framed by metallic trim. Further below, we can see slender air vents with metallic surrounds.

The center console appears to be relatively slim and it features a retractable panel that reveals a wireless smartphone charger, a small storage area and a USB port. The pictures also show the Z4’s shifter, iDrive controller and a glimpse of the stainless steel pedals.

The 2019 BMW Z4 will be offered with an assortment of different engines and BMW has already confirmed the M40i variant will have a new six-cylinder that is “extremely powerful.” That isn’t much to go on, but the car is expected to use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six that develops around 385 PS (283 kW / 380 hp).

While performance specifications remain unconfirmed, BMW has already said the car will have a locking rear differential and a lowered sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers.

BMW will unveil the Z4 on August 23rd, so stay tuned for full details.

Thanks to Kiki for the tip!

woohoo, I bet it will be same price as outgoing model even without hard top.

    • Almost perfect except oldschool door handle and KİAish star pattern inside of kidney grill

I agree. There is something rather whimsical about it that the last generation was missing. I am not a fan of this so far, looks like a bad retro job of the quintessential European roadster from the 60s/70s.

I liked the seriousness of the last Z4 HT.
Really hoping there will be a bigger roadster from BMW to challenge the likes of the SL.

    • Smith

Looks like every other BMW. This will really help the sales of the Toyota Supra!

Almost perfect except oldschool door handle and KİAish diamond thing inner of kidney grill

    • Smith

No where near perfect, just another boring BMW.

  • Andrewthecarguy

You know I am starting to think they built this smaller looking to make room for a Z6.
    Or a new Z8???

    • Christian

You must be an Inforwars reader, believing stuff like that…

  • Jason Panamera

    Nice interior.

      Ummm… okay.

  • TheHake

FINALLY maps on the instrument display!!!

    • Smith

      FINALLY, another boring, ugly BMW.

      • TheHake

        Isn’t this a Toyota?

    • PK

took them long enough. audi did this a while ago! bmw is years behind audi and merc when it comes to tech right now!

      • TheHake

I agree. Even my Passat from 2015 has it.

        • donald seymour

          You drive a Passat?

          • TheHake

          • donald seymour

            Do you like it?

          • TheHake

I am VERY happy with it. Done around 100 000km in 2 years with it. Averages 4.9lt/100km with a 2.0 TDI and DSG. The adaptive cruise and lane assist is great. And the Active Info Display is fantastic.

          • donald seymour

Wow a diesel? That’s the diesel is best iteration of the Passat. Do you think that you are going to make your own fuel?

          • TheHake

Haha, I’d love to. But my garage is a bit small for a Corn-to-Biodiesel plant… It’s barely big enough for a meth lab…

          • donald seymour

Wow, you really went there. Laugh out Loud. Use cooking oil.

  • Smith

WOW, another boring looking BMW. Nothing worth a second look, looks like every other BMW, boring, boring, and by the way … boring

    • wintergraan

If you dislike the car so much, why did you even bother writing the same comment over and over again? You could‘ve spent your precious time with so many other things 😉

      • PK

        well he’s not lying.

        • wintergraan

But there‘s no need to post the same comment multiple times. 😉

          • PK

i would’ve done the same thing.

          • wintergraan

And I would‘ve asked you the same question 😀

          • PK

  • Nordschleife

The power of professional pics. I does make a difference.

  • Larry Qualls

I will admit, these pics do look better than the previously leaked pics. That said, they really needed to hit a home run with the Z4, and this ain’t it! It’s evolutionary, not revolutionary! Just blah …

  • TheBelltower

    Very ordinary and expected.

  • Thank you BMW for not just sticking a tablet screen and call it a day.

The hot young side-piece / trust fund princess car.
That…or a 40something recently divorced barely upper middle class dude with child support and alimony payments…trying to attract a young hot babe…and FAILING miserably…because she has assessed your “situation” and wouldn’t be caught dead anywhere near you.

    • donald seymour

      Okayyy… that was very specific.

      • DR.FUNK

I’ve seen both types in that car.
My advice to men who fit the description:BUY A VETTE.(like the rest of ’em)

  • R55

Why slap that M40i badge on it, it looks awful.

    Just have it as “Z4”

  • Enter Ranting

Really lame “gauges.” See the Singer DLS Porsche 911, if you want to know how it’s done.

  • SteersUright

The side profile looks like such a design mess from a too-high sitting headlight to a terrible looking side-vent. The interior looks tight, as if the seats can barely recline and in a non-mid-engine car, this makes no sense.
Can’t see who this is supposed to appeal to. A sporty roadster at this price point should also be beautiful.

  • Finkployd

    How cliché is that ?
What do you have to say about Paris Hilton, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Myleene Klass, Holly Willoughby amongst others, driving a Mercedes G-Class ? Are you gonna assume they’re all butch lesbians ?
    Silly comment

    • Jason Panamera

I’d say that these people at least found their G-spot.

  • donald seymour

I am so with you on this.

  • donald seymour

Question? Why make the concept if the end result is going to be a complete turd? Why BMW?
