BMW M8 Gran Coupe Revealed In Patent Images? [Update, Nope, It’s The Concept]

BMW is having a hard time keeping the design of the new 8-Series Gran Coupe and 8-Series Convertible a secret, as both of them have already been seen thanks to a set of patent images.

Now, new and supposedly official renderings provide us with a first look at the M8 Gran Coupe as FerdFanPage has gotten its hands on three pictures that reveal the bold look of this Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe challenger.

Compared to the BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe, the M8 derivative sports a new front bumper with large air intakes, different side gills and one mean-styled rear bumper with incorporated diffuser and quad tailpipes. It also sits closer to the ground than the four-door 8-Series, rides on larger wheels and comes with smaller side mirrors.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe is expected to be powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. In the new M5, it’s good for 600 PS (592 hp / 442 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, whereas in the Competition, it adds another 25 PS (25 hp / 18 kW), although it’s unknown whether it will be massaged to produce even more in the M8.

Going from naught to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) is expected to take just a little over 3 seconds, with something like the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe needing 3.2 sec in the ‘S’ flavor. Meanwhile, top speed will likely exceed 300 km/h (186 mph).

Since BMW is likely to unveil the 8-Series Gran Coupe next year, this M8 version will probably trail it by a few months.

Update – As many of you rightly pointed out, the car pictured here in the patents is the M8 Concept, not the production model

It’s just a concept’s images. Look at the details before making so loud title

    • Adilos Nave

These are patent images. Pretty sure all of the details are there in black and white (and grey.) It only looks weird because they have to use a 2-point perspective.

      • damnson

        It’s patent images of concept.

Say what?! Why on earth would BMW spend the money and go through the lengthy process of filing for a patent on something they have zero intention on making? Does that make sense to you? Not saying I’m right and you’re wrong because I could be mistaken. But wow, what a waste of time and resources to go through all that trouble for a concept car!

Bruh, he is just traumatized from the 6, I meant the 8-Series production version. So, he is just psyching his self out of the belief that this patent could be production spec. Give him some time to come around.

    • donald seymour

Its okay. It’s okay. I know that BMW have failed you, but believe in this image. It is a production spec.

No door handle, thin mirrors, sharper headlamps and other details show us this is concept version

    a grand coupe on a 8 series…smh…idiots

  • Adilos Nave

They seem to be drawing inspiration for the bumper intakes from Darth Vader’s helmet. What ever happened subtle elegance? It’s this kind of over-the-top styling elements that cheapen the brand. Contrast this to a mid-1990’s 7-series that exudes class. Simple lines that convey prestige and refinement. This looks like the start of a Mitsubishi Eclipse body kit.

  • Matthew Boyd

Wow! Show car front and rear bumpers…that might just be the concept patent images because the headlights look a little different on the actual 8 Series. something that obviously won’t change between standard and performance model.

Not surprised at all. I was expecting a Gran Coupe and Convertible version of both the M8 and the lower trims and it looks like, so far, it’s happening.
