Unveiled in Geneva this week, the new BMW M8 Gran Coupe Concept is a preview of things to come.

It carries the traditional BMW front end, with the kidney grille flanked by slender headlamps, but it adds large air intakes in the front bumper, creases on the hood, and muscular wheel arches.

A fixed spoiler that almost looks tuner-made, slim taillights with a dark finish and LED tech, aggressive-looking bumper with mean diffuser and incorporated quad tailpipes dominate the rear end.

And since this is essentially an even sportier take of the new BMW M5, it gets a sloping roofline that places it in the same zone as the recently unveiled Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and the upcoming Audi RS7 Sportback. One can only hope that the final production car will look almost identical.

If you’re wondering what’s going on with that flashy color, then you may want to check out the official launch film of the M8 Gran Coupe Concept, which answers this very question at the end. Moreover, it also reveals the growl of the rumored 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, shared with the M5.

In the executive saloon, the lump generates 600PS (592hp) and 750Nm (553lb-ft) of torque, thus allowing it to accelerate to 100km/h (62mph) in 3.4 seconds, and up to a top speed of 250km/h (155mph). The latter can be increased to 305km/h (189mph) with the optional M Driver’s Package.

The new M8 Gran Coupe should be just as fast, or even quicker with some tweaks. The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has 639PS (630hp) and 900Nm (663lb-ft) of torque in the 63 S 4Matic+ version, needs 3.2 seconds to reach 100km/h (62mph), and will max out at 315km/h (195mph).
