Unhinged: Musk Calls Reporter “F****ing A**hole”, Claims Cave Diver Is Child Rapist

Elon Musk’s bizarre and abusive behavior continues as the chief executive of Tesla has called cave diver Vernon Unsworth a “child rapist” and told Buzzfeed News reporter Ryan Mac they are a “fucking asshole.”

The incident started last Wednesday, when the publication sent a request asking Musk to comment on the potential of being sued by Unsworth following his renewed attacks on the diver who participated in the widely publicized rescue of boys trapped in a Thai cave earlier this year. While this sounds like a fairly simple and straightforward request, it spawned an expletive filled e-mail and unsubstantiated allegations which will likely be used against him in an upcoming lawsuit.

In response to the request for comment, Musk said “I suggest that you call people you know in Thailand, find out what’s actually going on and stop defending child rapists, you fucking asshole.” He went on to say Unsworth is an “old, single white guy” who has been living in Thailand for “30 to 40 years, mostly Pattaya Beach, until moving to Chiang Rai for a child bride who was about 12 years old at the time.”

Musk went on to say “there’s only one reason people go to Pattaya Beach” and it isn’t for caves. He added that Chiang Rai is “renowned for child sex-trafficking” and then linked to a Google search containing the words Chiang Rai, child and trafficking.

The latest comments are a complete reversal from earlier this year when Musk apologized to Unsworth after calling him a “pedo” which is short for pedophile.  At the time, Musk also apologized to his companies and said “The fault is mine and mine alone.”

As for the proposed lawsuit, Musk told Buzzfeed News “I hope he fucking sues me.”

It appears Musk will soon be getting his wish as Unsworth’s attorney, L. Lin Wood, told CNBC “Elon Musk’s ongoing campaign of publishing vile and false accusations against Mr. Unsworth is reprehensible” and he will be sued for his conduct. The lawsuit has been in the works for some time and CNBC says it could be filed as early as next week.

Here’s the actual facts since this article chose not to research them. Unsworth, a British Citizen who lives in Thailand, does indeed have a provable record of employing underage prostitutes in Thailand for many years. The reason a lawsuit has been “pending” for 2 months now is his lawyers attempt to coerce a settlement from Musk without his client having to testify in open court and have this sordid past exposed. If this weren’t the case the suit would be ongoing. Lawsuits with merit aren’t “pending” for months. Whether Musk should have called him out on his sexual predilections in front of millions of people is different debate.

Have you ever been involved in a lawsuit of this size? Stuff isn’t lickity split like on TV. The legal system, especially in the US, is slow as hell, and that’s assuming they’re doing it in the US and not UK or Thai courts either.

      • eye.surgeon

Filing suit can be done in an afternoon. It doesn’t take 2 months. They’re looking for a go-away settlement because they know there is no libel. Stating facts isn’t libel.

        • Kash

Yeah you can file in an afternoon, unless you wanna win.

Most likely they’re crossing T’s, dotting i’s, and making sure they’re ready to take on a huge corporation, they’re also probably trying to figure out if they can only sue Elon personally or if they have a case to sue Tesla, SpaceX, and all the other companies Musk runs/owns since in the midst of the original spat Musk did bring up his companies with the whole mini-sub thing.

As someone who is still dealing with an ongoing lawsuit as a plaintiff and who has multiple lawyers in his, family this is not out of the ordinary and you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. My lawyer didn’t file my lawsuit until 6 months after my accident actually happened because he wanted to make sure he did his due diligence was prepared for as much as possible (i.e. motions to exclude various pieces of evidence, any witnesses that may come up, etc.), and yeah at first he was trying to work on a settlement, almost all lawyers do because it’s easier and cheaper than going to trial.

Not to mention, you said it yourself, you have no sources for anything you’ve been saying, just like Musk. Everything in your original comment is based off what? Stuff other people have been saying about Thailand? Just because it’s a big pedo spot doesn’t mean everyone who goes is a pedo. Until Musk can prove what he said is a fact (without just saying: Look where he lives, it’s known to be a hotspot for underage prostitutes) it’s not a fact, it’s speculation. Musk speculated that Unsworth moved to Thailand to be a pedo, he has no proof because if he did he [Musk] wouldn’t have deleted the Tweet where he called him a pedo or he would’ve posted the proof to his Twitter. If you aren’t trying to save face and minimise damages because you realized what you said was wrong, you don’t delete a Tweet.

Musk was jealous of Unsworth, he just wanted to get his “mini sub” in those young boys tight caves… sorry i mean to those young boys in that tight cave

Musk, I love ya, but stop it. If this guy is a pedo, let’s see the evidence. Otherwise it may be a good idea to just keep that to yourself.

I’m not assuming either. I’m waiting to see the results of the trial.

    • H.P. Loathecraft

No reason that one can’t be both a genius and an asshole concurrently. The condition is rather common, actually.

  • Kash

I’ll applaud Musk for cussing out Buzzfeed because they deserve to burn, but other than that Musk is having a mental breakdown at this point and should really consider stepping down or at least invest more time into getting better management in there so he doesn’t feel the need to be so hands on with EVERYTHING. If you can’t trust your staff to do their jobs then either you need to replace them or you need to step back and look at yourself.

  • charlotteharry57

    Must be self-medicating again.

  • The problem that I see here is that.

    1. He already apologize publicly of that accusations but now in private he still held believe that the accused person is indeed pedophile.

    2. If he has a proof linking him to the pedophilia charges then why don’t you report it? You know FBI has multinational team dealing with this. Even if you are in US and you have a proof that pedophilia activities is occurring in other parts of the world, you can report to them and they will make a case with relevant authority. Simple as that.

I mean I don’t want to take sides but unless you have a proof, then you are as bad as the online media that you criticize yourself.

    They are controversial sometimes.

Gossip and innuendo emerge long before public accusations and legal action (e.g. priests molesting children, the Harvey Weinstein case). Musk just had the balls to say it out loud. Unsworth’s provocative comments about Musk lending the submarine were unnecessary and rude, as was Musk’s response. Although I applaud Musk for defending himself. If you’re going to throw a pitch you should be prepared to have it hit back to you.

  • krusshall

Most commentary here is very misguided. It’s not about the truth. It’s about the leader and the face of a company engaging in a dubious distraction with behavior unfit for his position. Everything is about perception. The perception continues to strengthen that someone else should take over and run Tesla. Imagine if Tim Cook or Jeff Bezos or even Mary Barra got involved in some nonsensical spat like this.

I would like to point out that the reporter was from Buzzfeed. They’re gossip hacks, not reporters. The fact that they were allowed in the room alongside qualified journalists from CNN and Bloomberg is an atrocity. Calling anyone form Buzzfeed a journalist is an atrocity. #teamMusk
