A man in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, was arrested last week after a gas drive-off. What’s weird about that? Well, it wouldn’t be if it was a one time offense, but Karl R. Kinyon did the same thing… 23 times at a number of different Kwik Trip gas stations! According to a police report, he claimed to have had permission to do so.

Herald Times Reporter states that 37-year-old Kinyon pumped $43 worth of gas into his blue Dodge Grand Caravan on Monday afternoon and left without paying. Kinyon’s brazen theft was captured on CCTV and police were able to quickly track him down.

This wasn’t the first time Kinyon had made off with gas without paying. In fact, police soon discovered that this was his 23rd gas drive-off from Kwik Trips and that he’s still yet to pay for 14 of them and owes Kwik Trip about $800. These drive-offs occurred five times at Green Bay stores, one at the Bonduel store, three at Ashwaubenon stores, one at a De Pere store and one at the Kwik Trip on South 42nd Street in Manitowoc.

While speaking with officers, Kinyon claimed that he was “in a hurry to get to court and didn’t pay for the gas”. He asserted that he had established a “lay way” system with Kwik Trip that allows him to fuel up for free “as long as he pays eventually”.

Kinyon was taken into custody on suspicion of retail theft, two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping and felony bail jumping.
