Ford GT Devours The Course While Reaching 213 Mph (343 Km/h)

On a cloudy day but in perfect weather conditions, a 2017 Ford GT was set loose at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida, with a clear goal in mind: going as fast as possible.

The run took place on March 9, 2019, on the 3.22-mile (5.18 km) long straight, and saw the Canadian-built supercar max out at 213 mph (343 km/h), over a 2.7-mile (4.35 km) long distance. That’s just shy of the manufacture announced top speed of the new generation GT at 216 mph (348 km/).

Tipping the scales at 3,054 lbs (1,385 kg) dry and with 647 hp (656 PS / 483 kW) and 550 lb-ft (745 Nm) of torque produced by the 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine, the GT needs less than 3 seconds to hit the 60 mph (96 km/h) mark from a standstill.

That’s almost the same as the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, whose 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 rockets it to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds. Top speed in the Italian supercar is, however, lower, at 201 mph (325 km/h).

Now, you may remember the new GT being unleashed at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds on a couple of different occasions. One time, it gave up at 210 mph (338 km/h) and on a different day, it did a standing-mile run, with the speedometer eventually indicating 180 mph (290 km/h).

The Bugatti Chiron is, however, is the top dog at the Florida runway, with the hypercar maxing out at 261 mph (420 km/h).

I admit when introduced, the idea of an ecoboost V6 in a “supercar” was just ridiculous to me.
And now I continue to be impressed by this car.
