Silverado Drives In The Wrong Lane, Gets Smashed By Oncoming Semi

The driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado traveling down the wrong side of I-74 west of Illinois got involved in a huge accident when he slammed into a semi-truck late last week.

Footage captured by a motorist traveling down the highway shows the Silverado cruising at approximately 60 mph into oncoming traffic. Suddenly, a red semi-truck comes into view, hitting the side of the pickup in an extremely forceful, and scary, collision.

While the two did not crash head-on, the Silverado suffered significant damage and the video captures the immediate aftermath of the crash, revealing that much of the pickup truck was smashed. The incident was so serious, authorities were forced to shut down the eastbound lanes of the highway for approximately two hours.

WQAD8 reports that the semi-truck crossed over into the median of the interstate immediately after the crash and soon burst into flames. Fire crews were able to extinguish the inferno, but only after the entire cab of the truck was destroyed.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The 24-year-old driver of the pickup, identified as Tyler N. Vanalsburg, was later arrested and charged with DUI and driving on the wrong way of the interstate.

What’s particularly shocking about this incident is the fact that things could have been much worse. If the pickup and semi had collided head-on, it’s likely that both drivers would have sustained serious injuries and may have even been killed. This just goes to show that at these speeds, any type of collision can be severe.

wait, why the f did he keep driving?

  • Mr. EP9

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

  • Paul

The video shows the side of the pickup getting tore up and then quickly moves down to the steering wheel of the cammer and his leg. Don’t get any real aftermath of what happened to it.

    • Paulbe

Don’t understand why everyone seems to drop their phones right at the moment of the money shot.

  • Duffman

We have a huge problem in Arizona about people entering the freeway on the wrong side. I am still baffled how someone does this. I feel that anyone who drives this way (unless escaping immediate danger) should never be allowed to drive again. Your dumba** is putting innocent people’s lives in danger.

  • Cit Onit

Video doesn’t show anything a minute 23 seconds of a pickup truck going down the road. You’re gif showed everything that needed to be seen

    • Knotmyrealname

It showed about 1:17 of brainless, selfish and careless (I’m not even going to say driving) pointing of a vehicle into the path of oncoming traffic. A head-on and one less moron on the face of this earth would have been the best outcome. Harsh? Every time I see these sorts of collision videos I shudder at the thought of a car with infants or toddlers being the victims of someone’s stupidity.

      • Cit Onit

Yes the only “saving Grace” wone innocent got hurt and it happened to be a semi that taught the lesson.
People that do that should go away for attempted murder

  • Bash

DUI? some sick bet? I hope he didn’t have some sort of stroke or brain damage because no one with half brain would attempt to do that crazy $hiT

    • Benjamin B.

      Guy could’ve died

      • Bash

        Or killed someone else.

  • jlschmugge

Why’d that guy in the video sound shocked when the truck hit? What did he expect was going to happen?

  • salamOOn

    none of it would help…

  • Jay

Cops could’ve already called by someone else or before they started recording. Honking the horn could’ve done what???? The driver of the pick up was awake and over there purposely and the semi wouldn’t have benefited in anyway either.

  • Khanaar

I seen the aftermath of this wreck while on my way to ohio from alberta canada. The semi was absolutley burned to a hulk, while that pickup was on a flat deck, absolutely smashed. I thought for sure it would have been a fatality. Im glad i was wrong.

How the heck did someone survive?

  • Danistheman

I’m not the one to push for more laws, as there are too many. I believe however, that you should lose your license for life if you drive down the wrong side of the road, drunk or sober.

    • Benjamin B.

At least no one died. That’s a miracle if there’s ever one.

  • Onur Koray

    Natural selection at its best…

    • SgtBeavis

It’s not natural selection if the idiot survives.

  • I don’t understand why he don’t call 911 !,!!!
I see the money he can get on YouTube is much more important than other human beings
I don’t know that person who drives in the wrong direction so my instincts tell me not to judge, i don’t know what life problems he , have so think again before ” killing them with words ”
I just hope everyone are ok 😥✌

    • Benjamin B.

Well said. You have a point. But I’m guessing whoever was in the Chevy pickup truck died upon impact. There’s nothing anyone could have done. It’s very sad. And obviously, by the other comments, many people believe he had it coming.

    • Benjamin B.

Wow I’m glad the person survived, but I can’t believe there are people who wanted him killed so badly

  • Benjamin B.

The guy filming was on the correct side of the street going the same direction as the Chevy pickup truck.
