Can The 2020 Corvette Stingray Win Over Jay Leno?

The reveal of the 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette last week was an invitation-only affair – and among the honored guests was none other than Jay Leno.

The comedian and TV show host had the opportunity to film an exclusive video of the new mid-engine supercar with Ed Piatek, the chief engineer of the Corvette. This particular Corvette is painted in a shade of blue and, while it’s not our favorite color (which, admittedly, is highly subjective anyway…), it is certainly eye-catching.

Leno starts his tour of the new Corvette with a look at the vehicle’s 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine.

This powertrain, dubbed the LT2, has 490 hp and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque, but if customers want a little more grunt, they can opt for the Z51 Performance Package which increases power to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm). For the first time, the ‘Vette gets an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels and helping the supercar rocket to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 3 seconds.

Chevrolet didn’t only start from scratch in designing the exterior of the C8 Corvette – the same applies to the interior too. As a result, the appears much more premium than previous generations and is very driver-focused. There is a small steering wheel with a squared-off bottom and top, a large, 12-inch re-configurable gauge cluster and a unique column of buttons that separate the driver and passenger.

Leno also had the opportunity to briefly drive the C8, which probably makes him one of the first people outside of General Motors to get behind the wheel of Chevy’s brand new supercar.

  • Leno is still wanna those disgusting comedians…

    • Six_Tymes

      a disgusting comment.

      • For saying the truth? Did you see what he said about Amy Schumer?? Shes a woman with a great figure! Why don’t you go out and do a man thing, instead of trolling me on the internet? Clean your S2000 or something..

        • Emoto

What did he say? I couldn’t find it.

          • performante

            Don’t feed the troll.

          • Knotmyrealname

He isn’t the full quid. Don’t bother. Easiest thing to do is to block her (I think it’s an ‘it’).

        • Knotmyrealname

You need to up your meds. Something’s not right in the upper floors, if you know what I mea…..
          Oh, don’t bother.

      • D3X

Surprised he isn’t talking about saving the EARTH by trolling the Vette threads one post at a time.

        • Six_Tymes

Ha! trolls are dimwits, they actually choose to act stupid. anyway, I didn’t release he was one until today. But anyway, back to the C8, any idea who will video review it first?

          • Matt

Man you are obsessed with video reviews.

  • Jim Ragland

Hmmm….maybe Doug would have done a better vid.

    • Six_Tymes

Not Jays fault, there is limited release until the 25th

  • Six_Tymes

Cant wait to see a full review. I do wonder what Jay will think.

A lot of controversy about the styling vs the last gen Corvette. I like the new one; I don’t like the black colored edge of the large side vents. Also the rear is too busy with angles all over the place. GM just can’t make a clean design like Ferrari.
I’m sure the Gen 8 drives great; probably a big improvement over Gen 7.
Hard to believe it’s priced similar to the Porsche Boxster or Cayman while being a class or two above the Germans.

    • atomicbri

A good thing is Chevrolet is letting you option to make those side vents body color if you want as well.

  • Aqua Boogie

    Looking very good in blue.

  • Jweisberg

Looks better than the c7. I think the Z06 version will really make it stand out.

  • wonderdallas

Seeing it in action, that door scoop trim is going to be easy to slam into other parked cars. I don’t think the Corvette occupants can see it hanging out past the trailing edge of the door. I expect to see a lot of paint chips missing on those.

    • GT

True, but at least it’ll be cheaper and easier to fix than the door.

  • Alduin

This will easily be one of the best Corvettes ever made. 60k for a base? What a steal who wants a hybrid NSX for 100k? no thanks. The Corvette will own the NSX.

  • Justin Spencer

Not at all a Corvette fan but this one is definitely growing on me! I didn’t anticipate a $60K price tag….thought for sure they’d jack this thing up closer to $100,000. It’s definitely a steel and with 495hp???…WHAAAAAAT!!!

    • john1168

With some options and the Z51 spec, your probably talking $75k to $80 k. Still a fantastic deal.
