2020 Nissan Versa Priced From $15,625, Adds $2,270 To Previous Model’s MSRP

Nissan has put a price on the all-new 2020 Versa subcompact sedan and the increase over the previous-generation model is substantial.

The third-generation Versa starts from $15,625 for the base Versa S 5MT model, including a $895 destination charge. Factor that in and the entry-level 2020 Versa is $2,270 more expensive than its predecessor.

In fairness, buyers do get much more for the money, starting with the redesigned exterior and interior of the 2020 Versa which are both massive improvements over the 2019 model. The new model also gains new tech including the available Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of safety systems (standard on Versa SV and SR).

The 2020 Nissan Versa offers three grades: S, SV, and the sporty-flavored SR. Only the base model comes with a standard five-speed manual transmission, with the other two offering an Xtronic CVT as the only gearbox choice. The CVT is optional on the entry-level Versa S.

Regardless of the trim level, the only engine on offer is a new, more powerful 1.6-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine rated at 122 hp and 114 lb-ft (155 Nm) of torque. Fuel economy with the Xtronic transmission is rated at 32 mpg city, 40 mpg highway and 35 mpg combined. With the standard five-speed manual, fuel economy ratings are 27 mpg city, 35 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined.

New standard features introduced on the 2020 Versa include a “floating” 7.0-inch touchscreen audio display, remote keyless entry, standard push button start, and a D-shaped steering wheel. Also standard are the Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, Streaming audio via Bluetooth, RearView Monitor, Siri Eyes Free, AM/FM audio system with four speakers and USB, and Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant.

Available equipment includes heated front seats, 60/40-split fold-down rear seat, and Automatic Climate Control, among other things.

Nice improvement. If Nissan really wants to dominate the market, like the new Altima offer optional AWD.

    • Jason Miller

You’re barely getting manufactures sneaking AWD into the compact segment (Mazda3) I highly doubt you will find it in this segment anytime soon, if at all.

      • Paul

But we can wish. I like that Idea of AWD in this class of car.

    Not bad for the price.

Honestly, the SV looks like a pretty good deal and I like the white cloth on the dash and even the 16″ alloys look pretty decent. They really did transform this car from being a cheap penalty box into being a pretty nice car for people looking for their first new car or just wanting something on a budget.

Surprisingly, the new Versa looks okay. Considering how pathetic the previous version was, who honestly had high hopes for this version.

  • Dennis Scipio

With that price bump for the new Versa, it now makes the Mitsubishi Mirage (the Hatchback), the cheapest new car in the United States starting at $13,795, before taxes and destination costs.

  • Paul

At least it looks worthy of the price bump anyway.

For some odd reason the rear lights of the Maxima, Altima and this Versa (probably the Sentra too but I can’t remember what it looks like) bothers me. It’s still so very 90’s and while differentiation is great, I don’t hold their taillights in high regard. But it’s much better looking overall than its predecessor.

That ugly cheap piece of plastic on the C-pillar detracts of an otherwise good looking car.
