This Is Likely A New Buick SUV For China [Updated]

Update: It appears the Buick-inspired styling cues might not be a coincidence as the model could actually be the brand’s upcoming crossover that will slot in between the Envision And Enclave.

Consumers can’t seem to get enough crossovers and it appears Opel and Vauxhall are happy to oblige as spy photographers have caught an all-new model which will slot above the Grandland X.

Sporting a distinctive face, the mystery model has a prominent grille and unique lighting units. The crossover also has a large air intake and vertical openings near the outside edges.

Moving further back, we can see door-mounted mirrors and a pronounced shoulder line that runs from the hood to the tailgate. Other notable features include a gently sloping roof and a relatively rakish windscreen.

While Opel and Vauxhall are no longer owned by General Motors, the rear end closely mimics the one used on the Buick Enclave. As you can see, it features wraparound taillights that appear to be connected by a thin strip of chrome trim. The model also has a tailgate-mounted spoiler, a dual exhaust system and a rear window that angles up towards the outside edges.

We’re not entirely sure what the model will be called, but it’s expected to be based on the long-wheelbase version of the EMP2 platform that underpins the Peugeot 5008. Engine options could be shared between the models so petrol choices could include a 1.2-liter with 128 hp (96 kW / 130 PS) and a 1.6-liter developing 163 hp (121 kW /165 PS). On the diesel side, there could be 1.6- and 2.0-liter units developing between 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS) and 178 hp (132 kW / 180 PS).

Unfortunately, the Opel / Vauxhall crossover could be front-wheel drive only. That’s a bit disappointing, but not surprising as the 5008 isn’t offered with all-wheel drive either.

We should learn more about the crossover soon as speculation suggests it could be introduced as early as next year.

If Opel was sold to PSA by GM, why is it using a Buick Enclave for their new car?

  • Hi 2019

It’s not an Opel. It is the new Buick enspire if you look at there spy shots. It is just in different cameo

Mirrors = Dead Giveaway it’s not a PSA, lately we come here for half baked stories that require a further investigation on our part…

That doesn’t look like an Opel to me – perhaps it actually is a Buick? That’s too big to be based on the 5008.

  • I don’t think this is an Opel/Vauxhall at all. They already have a 5008-based crossover, the Grandland X, which is too new to merit a spied mule of the next generation as early as now.

      • Thanks for this. My apologies.

Buick’s and Opel’s design was the same until the divorce of the latter from GM. The new Corsa already shows new design influence from Peugeot. Now could this SUV be developed for both brands despite the breakup? It looks like it could go both ways…

    Megaland X?

it doesn’t look much like the 5008, maybe GM and PSA are still cooperating like before

  • Another totally unnecessary vehicle by morons who have forgotten where they came from. China loves Buick. The Buick Enclave is built in Lansing, MI. There are empty boats going back to China once they’ve dumped their garbage in the US.
It would make sense logistically to load those boats with American made Buicks and sell them to people in a China. Am I wrong??
