Can You See It? BMW X6 Vantablack’s Boasts The World’s Blackest Black Paint

Full pitch-black cars are often called murdered-out in our field of work, but what do you call the world’s blackest vehicle? You could refer to it by using the official name of the color, which is Vantablack, the blackest black, applied in this case to a third-gen BMW X6 crossover.

As you can tell, it doesn’t shine under the spotlights at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, where it celebrated its world premiere, but you will see it lurking in the shadows at BMW’s stand. All you have to do is look for those white teeth, aka the optional backlit grille, as that is the combo chosen by the Bavarians.

Initially developed for aerospace applications, Vantablack quickly found its way in other fields. According to its maker from Surrey NanoSystems, some of the biggest names in automotive industry have expressed interest in it ever since the original material was launched five years ago. Nonetheless, for whatever reason, they always declined, until BMW made them an offer they could not refuse.

In case you were wondering whether you can buy a Vantablack Bimmer, the answer is no (at this point, at least), as the X6 has been built for show and tell purposes only. However, with the technology becoming more available, we could see vehicles finished in the world’s blackest black in the future, be it as a factory or an aftermarket option.
