Ex-Lamborghini Chief Designer Filippo Perini Moves To Genesis

Filippo Perini is the latest world-famous car designer to join the Hyundai Motor Group, after Kia signed Karim Habib recently.

From his new position as Chief Designer at the Genesis Advanced Design Studio in Europe, he will lead the automaker’s premium brand and is expected to play a key role in shaping up Genesis’ future vehicles.

“I am fascinated by the possibility of contributing to the evolution of the Genesis brand and I look forward to starting this new challenge with the Genesis design team, making available my expertise and my passion”, said Perini, whose will assume his new duties on September 16.

With a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in automotive design from Politecnico di Milano, Perini spent a couple of decades working with some of Europe’s most exciting car brands, including Alfa Romeo, Audi, Lamborghini and Italdesign.

“Filippo’s vast experience with European luxury brands makes him an ideal fit to lead the Genesis Advanced Design Studio, and his insight will be instrumental for the development of each of our upcoming projects including both advanced and production designs”, said Hyundai Motor Group’s CEO, Luc Donckerwolke. “His strongest skill is interpreting a brand’s essence and presenting ideas to consumers in well-edited, timeless executions.”

Prior to switching boats, he was Italdesign’s Head of Design and Innovation between 2015 and 2019, where he was responsible for the stunning ZeroUno and DaVinci. From 2006 to 2016, he was Lamborghini’s Head of Design, and between 2004 and 2006 he was the Raging Bull’s Head of Exterior and Interior Design, having worked on the Gallardo, Aventador, Reventon, Estoque, Aventador J, Veneno, Asterion and Urus. In 2003 and 2004, Perini was Senior Designer at Audi, and in 2001 and 2002, Exterior Design Responsible at Alfa Romeo, where he started out in 1995 as Car Designer.

    So
    From Infiniti to Kia
    And
    From Lamborghini to Genesis

need waiting to see the new designs which shall be the same car mechanical with 3 total different designs

At least we need to thank god for not taking from Toyota!

    • Fine Taste

Toyota gladly skinned their flagship coupe over a BMW. What would they even have to offer, outside of embarrassment and shame?

    • Maykel

Wouldn’t say same mechanically, Hyundai and Kia will be FWDs. Genesis is RWD. Speaking of Toyota, they could use a European influence.

      • Сафиуллинь-Мухамед Рамазанов

Honestly Toyota need a real design house and need to rebuild car in house, the LFA wasn’t bad the first GS wasn’t bad design wise

I know that Genesis now are FR but as soon as they will turn it electric they may use FF as Infiniti for example, need to wait and see

It’s odd – don’t you think – that the Hyundai Motor Group has little to no interest in hiring the man who designed the Pontiac Aztec. Hmm…

    • boo boo the fool

that car is lowkey a legend

      • Ben

Because of Breaking Bad and Doug Demuro, huh?

    • SteersUright

nor any mass production Cadillac, Acura, etc…

  • Maykel

Donckerwolke recruiting his former colleagues at Lambo and Bentley huh

  • Loquacious Borborygmus

    He’s no Phil Collins.

  • Bo Hanan

This is a very interesting (and likely strategic) move by Genesis. What will it produce.

  • SteersUright

Hyundai has poached talent from BMW M, Porsche GT, Audi Design, and now Lambo design. It products are looking and performing better than ever. Whats so hard for Cadillac, Acura, and Infiniti to understand about this approach? Instead of languishing forever, recruit some of your strongest competitor’s top talent and give them the freedom to do their best work!
