Elon Musk Says “I’m A F***ing Idiot” For ‘Pedo-Guy’ Comments

Court documents have revealed that Tesla chief executive Elon Musk admitted he was a “f***ing idiot” for how he acted during last year’s ‘pedo guy’ saga.

In a new filing in the defamation case brought by British diver Vernon Unsworth who Musk called a ‘pedo guy’, said was a child rapist, and accused of marrying a 12-year-old girl from Thailand, an email sent by Musk to a PR agent offers an insight into what the outspoken executive was thinking when making the accusations in an email to Buzzfeed.

“I didn’t expect Buzzfeed to publish an off-the-record email. My intent was to have them investigate and come to their own conclusions, not publish my email directly,” Musk’s email to the PR agent reads. “Still, I’m a f***ing idiot…It was still one of the dumber things I’ve ever done.”

Musk’s infamous email sent to Buzzfeed was prefaced with a message that it was ‘off-the-record.’ In journalism lingo, that basically means what is said shouldn’t be reported. Unfortunately for Musk, Buzzfeed never agreed to off-the-record discussions with Musk and his email was swiftly published.

Musk paid a private investigator at least $50,000 to investigate Unsworth. The Tesla boss made the accusation Unsworth married a 12-year-old child bride after information he received from this investigator. The accusation was untrue and earlier this month it was revealed that the investigator, James Howard-Higgins, was a convicted felon who had served time in prison for fraud and fed false information to Musk.

“[These are] false, heinous accusations by Elon Musk, a thin-skinned billionaire who is obsessed with his public image and who has a history of vindictively and intentionally ignoring truth to maintain that PR-created image,” the filing states.

Unsworth is seeking $75,000 from Musk and unspecified punitive damages for defamation.

Elon-Musk-Tweet-j

  • I stand with Elon!

    • Aeromann

      Why?

  • charlotteharry57

More troubling to me is that Elon hired a convicted felon as his investigator. WHAT?

Unsworth should get at least $1 million from Elon. Anything less and the Tweets go on (maybe even for a million).

    • Howfarr

Agreed, $75k and public apology just ain’t enough.

Musk’s apology needs to be as loud as his disrespect was

      • Stephen G

He sent an e-mail to Buzzfeed. You’re OK with an apology in the same fashion?

        • Howfarr

Oops, your youth is showing. As you make your way through life without fact checking anything, you will find a lot of people who think they know better than you. If you should encounter one of these people, remember you know best because feelings are stronger than facts.

          • Stephen G

I know you don’t answer questions when you’re asked, but have you ever verified a doctor’s credentials before a visit?

          • Howfarr

So because Elon knows better than anyone else, he didn’t need to check if his ‘submarine’ would be at all useful before embarking on a PR campaign using trapped children to improve his public image.

          • Stephen G

If “pedo guy” said “No thanks, I don’t think your submarine would work for us” then there would be no “PR”.

          • Howfarr

A guy working tirelessly in extremely stressful, exhausting and dangerous conditions to save childrens lives tells billionaire ‘genius’ (who has no idea about those conditions clearly embarking on a PR campaign for himself) to stick his submarine “where it hurts”.

Said billionaire then makes FALSE heinous accusations against guy working to save childrens lives.
            Musk: “I’m A F***ing Idiot” – the smartest thing he’s ever said

          • Stephen G

Doesn’t justify extortion. Musk was gracious enough to apologize. Unsworth should do the same.

  • Howfarr

Paid $50k to private investigator, who turned out to be a convicted felon (for fraud), feeding him false info.
Yea the guys a f * king genius isn’t he!

    When will Musketeers learn

    • Stephen G

Opps. Your youth is showing. As you make your way through life you will find that there is a trememdous amount of unscrupulous people out there offering their services under false pretenses. If you should happen to use one of them unsuspectingly, it doesn’t make you a dumb ass…it makes you a victim.

      • Howfarr

Wonder how much money Elon sends to the Ugandan Lottery to release his $300 Billion dollar winnings waiting for him.

  • Craig

The only one damaged by Elon Musk’s comment was Elon Musk. THAT SAID… more often than not people who are capable of extraordinary things do and say extraordinarily stupid things. Ordinary people don’t DO extraordinary things.

    • Howfarr

I think you blew your own mind with that statement, but seriously what a dumb statement…

      • Craig

        Are you seriously that stupid?

        • Howfarr

          Are you?
Anyone is capable is doing an extraordinary thing, like risking you life to save children trapped in a flooded cave system.
If you came across someone in life threatening situation, you couldn’t help them because your only ‘ordinary’?

Pipe down and just delete your dumb statement

          • Craig

And that comment was supposed to convince me that you’re NOT a complete moron? Walk away quietly you jackass.

          • Howfarr

Worlds a dangerous place, take care if you ever leave your moms basement

  • Six_Tymes

Well, they all have money, so they’ll be fine. I am just glad to know we have one less pedophile on the planet. And whoever this liar James Higgins is, he should be back in prison.

  • Stephen G

Let’s not forget that calling Unworth a “pedo guy” was in responce to Musk offering to deliver a submarine to help in the rescue of the stranded kids and Unsworth telling him to “stick the submarine were it hurts”. Two very childish responses by noteworthy people that lost their senses for a moment. If it wasn’t for the desire to extort money, the proper solution for the issue is both “adults” apologizing and maybe a handshake.

    • Howfarr

Ones a childish statement, the other is calling someone a pedophile. They are not on the same level.

    • Patrick

Musk paid someone to investigate Unsworth so that he can destroy him. And then he went to Buzzfeed hoping they would support his scheme. Not really the same.

      • Stephen G

Unsworth told Mush to shove his sub up his a$$ knowing how he would reply angerly so he could suck as much cash out of him as possible.

  • Reformed Alchemist

But lying under the guise of ‘optimism’ to keep a structurally public bankrupt company afloat – all good.

  • Mr. EP9

He’s going to lose the lawsuit isn’t he?

  • db

This is quite likely one of the more sober and sane moments Musk ever had.

When you know that you are in the limelight, you can’t throw high school trash talk around the world and expect nothing to come of it.

I think the best thing Musk can do is take his lumps for being extraordinarily stupid, mark it as another step in maturity, pay off Unsworth’s lawsuit, offer a public apology and move on.

    Case closed.

  • Dustin

It doesn’t sound like it’s the comment he has remorse over.

“Musk calls himself “a fucking idiot” for providing a BuzzFeed News reporter with unverified information”

Big difference to how you’ve titled and written the article here.

  • you don’t say!?

  • Craig

    What an extraordinarily silly comment.

  • db

Most likely being guided by his legal staff.

  • Paul

Sometimes this is what it takes to get these types of people’s attention when they so often run amok. Hit them in the pocketbook.
