Ford is getting ready to tap into the small 4×4 segment with the so-called ‘baby Bronco’. Poised to take on the Jeep Renegade and its like, it will be positioned as a smaller alternative to the full-blown Bronco, retaining the boxy styling that continues to be hidden beneath camouflage in scooped prototypes.

Nonetheless, Kleber Silva gave it a shot at imagining how it could look like once the wraps come off. Or that’s the narrative but who are kidding; this is what it could look if Ford Still owned Land Rover and they developed it alongside the new Defender, being that it’s pretty clear that the photoshop artist Bronco-ed up pictures of the former.

The rendered vehicle sports large ‘Ford’ lettering in the front grille that is flanked by square-shaped headlights inspired by the F-150 truck. Prominent wheel arches contribute to its stance, as do the plastic add-ons on the lower parts of the body, tailgate design inspired by the Land Rover Discovery Sport, ‘Bronco’ lettering and rear skid plate.

And while the true styling of the small SUV is a well-kept secret in Dearborn, we know that it’s based on the same platform as the latest Escape. This tells us that some engine options should carry over, with a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder EcoBoost rated at 180 horses, believed to be one of them. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost that produces 250 hp, will probably be on the list as well. Hybrid and/or electric options won’t be offered anytime soon, according to the rumor mill.

Aside from the SUV body style, the baby Bronco has been imagined as a pickup truck, too, with an open bed behind the rear seats and a few other design upgrades, inspired by the Ranger Raptor. As you can see, the body of this render is based on the F series truck and not the Defender. While this proposal sounds enticing, =we wouldn’t get our hopes too high, as a pickup variant seems like a long stretch.
