Nissan Ariya Concept Is The Dawn Of A New Era For Automaker

The eye-catching Nissan Ariya Concept has been unveiled shortly after the vehicle surfaced online a little earlier than expected.

Nissan says the Ariya Concept “signals the dawn of a new era” for the brand as it “embarks to redefine its brand philosophy for the next evolutionary phase of the automobile.” That’s a bold mission statement from the company and it’s fitting that the vehicle is quite the head-turner.

Nissan is previewing a new design philosophy with the Ariya Concept, taking design inspiration from the IMx Concept of 2017’s Tokyo Motor Show and adding some bold new elements. At the front, you will find a bold front ‘shield’ in place of the front grille you would ordinarily find in an ICE vehicle. The car rolls on a set of 21-inch aluminum wheels and also features a rear-end quite a bit different than traditional SUVs thanks to steeply raked C-pillars.

“A new vehicle architecture means fresh opportunities to redefine how vehicles interact with society, how an EV paired with advanced driving capabilities can offer a new perspective,” Nissan senior vice president of global design Alfonso Albaisa said of the concept. “The exterior strikes a balance between dynamic beauty and ‘tech sharpness,’ with proportions that show what’s possible with Nissan’s 100% electric vehicle platform. The surprisingly short overhangs, large cabin, large wheels and tailored two-tone paint scheme provide an elegant appearance that balances sport and luxury.”

Nissan hasn’t provided details regarding the vehicle’s electric powertrain other than saying it features dual electric motors at the front and one electric motor at the rear. What we do know is that it is equipped with Nissan’s ProPILOT 2.0 driver assistance system that allows for hands-off driving while cruising in a given lane.

sharp. shame the production version if produced will never look as good as these renders.

  • MarkoS

Simpler yet original lines, dare I say more mature. Interesting Nissan, lets see what you do with it. Nissan was onto something with the IDX too and that went nowhere.

The Nissan looks does look slightly different than the existing one.

That is definitely an improvements over the vehicles they are selling now.

Of course, almost anything would be an improvement over the vehicles they are selling now.

From the back is very…Audi style.

    there’s something VW ID.3 in it…

    Nice Kodo designed Nissan.

  • Thetruthísntalwayspopular

Really really nice. If ONLY their production cars were as lovely as their concepts.

  • DetrinKD

Looking at the details, this is very close to production. This is definitely a production car spruced up to become a “concept”.

  • Honda NSX-R

The Nissan logo is different now

    • DetrinKD

It seems they have evolved both the Nissan and Infiniti logos on their electric concepts. I really like both! Wonder when they’ll make their official debuts…

  • Toronado_II

Nice, but it cold be anything. I don’t recognise Nissan.

  • botornot387

Bold… and UGLY. Someone really liked the rear end on the Urus. The interior is a step up. It can’t filter down to a current Nissan soon enough. Though with their filter, it will be unrecognizable by that time probably.

In terms of design it’s terribly bland.

It’s bold alright but the production vehicle never looks like the stylized show vehicle. I don’t like the instrument panel either.
