A few months after Carlex Design unveiled its Mercedes-AMG G63 ‘Steampunk’ Limited Edition, RoCars had the opportunity to check it out up close. It’s certainly bold.

Carlex intends on building ten examples of the heavily-customized SUV, each benefiting from significant exterior and interior alterations.

From the outside, the most striking aspect of the G63 Steampunk Limited Edition are the various bronze accents. These include the massive wheels, side-exiting tailpipes, and badges. Most of the exterior is bathed in a lovely shade of gloss black but the roof sports a bronze painted finish with a pattern of skills, roses, and diamonds. This theme continues across the spare wheel cover on the tailgate. Given how much G-Class owners like to be seen, it seems like a match made in heaven.

The interior is just as unique as the exterior, perhaps even more so. Carlex Design went to the trouble of cladding the inside with all-new brown leather to add to the luxurious feel of the high-end SUV. In addition to the brown leather, there are bronze accents to complement those of the exterior as well as highly-detailed embroidery mimicking the pattern on the roof. This includes the headliner filled with skulls and roses.

Other standout features in the cabin include wooden floor ‘mats’ and wood across the rear of the second-row seats and through the floor of the trunk. All of these features combine to create a G-Wagon that’s in-your-face while still being tasteful if you’re into the world of steampunk, that is.
