Geely Design Shanghai has taken the wraps off the stunning Vision Starburst.

Inspired by the “stellar phenomena where brilliant nebulas and magnificent elements come together, merging, fusing and finally bursting into new stars,” the Vision Starburst features a “new and alternative expression” of the company’s Expanding Cosmos design philosophy.

It’s a radical departure from the company’s current models as the concept has a bold grille with a parabolic pattern, which is flanked by angular air intakes and vertical LED daytime running lights. This gives the concept a bit of a Cadillac vibe, but it’s handsome nonetheless.

Moving further back, the Vision Starburst has a rakish windscreen, minimalist pillars and a dynamic greenhouse. Designers also gave the model flamboyant bodywork and illuminated wheel arches which have a variety of lighting effects that communicate what the vehicle is doing. Geely didn’t go into many specifics, but noted the car could show certain colors while charging, parking or in motion.

The rear end features an angular design with boomerang-shaped taillights that are connected by a thin illuminated stripe. Elsewhere, there’s a distinctive diffuser and a vertical third brake light.

Opening the dihedral doors reveals a futuristic interior with “Cosmic Ray” lights which seem to flow into the digital instrument cluster. The concept also has a two-spoke steering wheel and a tablet-like infotainment system.

Other highlights include four individual seats which are separated by a floating center console. The latter boasts a geometric shifter with four different lines that illuminate to show the selected gear. Speaking of illumination, the ambient lighting system is envisioned to change depending on the state of the vehicle to convey information to drivers in a whole new way.

The Vision Starburst will sadly remain a concept, but the automaker said “many aspects of the new design language will be taken and applied to future Geely … models.”
