Chevy Expands Availability Of 6.2L V8, Adds New Tech To 2022 Tahoe And Suburban

Chevrolet announced today that its 6.2-liter V8 engine will be available across more trim levels in the 2022 Tahoe and Suburban. The new model year will also introduce an electronic limited-slip differential, a bigger digital instrument cluster, Google Assistant features, and more to the full-size SUVs.

Rated at 420 hp (425 PS/313 kW), the 6.2-liter V8 is standard on the High Country trim and will be available as an option for the 2022 RST, Z71, and Premier models. Featuring dual exhausts, fuel management technology, and more, the engine will add some extra performance to the Tahoe and Suburban.

When the RST trim is optioned with the 6.2-liter engine, it will also come with Magnetic Ride Control, which is also available on the Z71 and comes standard on the Premier and High Country trims.

The 5.3-liter V8 will remain the standard option for the LS, LT, Z71, RST, and Premier models. All, except for the Z71, will also be available with GM’s 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine. All engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with a push-button electronic shift.

Helping keep the off-road-focused Z71 trim trucking will be an optional electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD). New for 2022, the technology helps shift power from side to side, prioritizing torque to wheels with grip to improve traction. Although the technology is often associated with performance vehicles, Chevrolet says it will also help the Tahoe and Suburban off-road.

A new 12.3-inch instrument cluster will also grace the interior of the 2022 Tahoe and Suburban. It will be standard for the LT trim and higher and will offer four, driver-selectable layouts that allow the driver to prioritize display information in the manner most comfortable for them.

The SUVs also get up to 13 camera views for 2022, including a transparent trailer view, a rear trailer view, a picture-in-picture side view, as well as a view that allows you to peer inside your trailer when an accessory camera is connected.

Along with the new camera tech, Chevrolet is also embedding Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the Google Play app store in its infotainment system. These will allow drivers to use the company’s latest technology and change audio volume, the radio station, the destination, and more by using voice recognition, rather than reaching down. Despite that, the vehicles will continue to offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The 2022 Tahoe and Suburban now come with front and rear park assist, lane keep assist, and lane departure warnings as standard across all trims. Buckle to Drive, which prevents the driver from shifting into gear if their seatbelt isn’t fastened, will also be standard on the latest model.

Finally, Chevrolet is adding three new colors for the 2022 model: Evergreen Gray Metal, Auburn Metallic, and Dark Ash Metallic. Production of the 2022 model is set to start in October.
