It’s fun to live in a fantasy land of owning all of our favorite cars, trucks, or SUVs but that’s not possible for all but the very smallest percentage of us. In fact, we’re willing to bet that most of us have owned something less than desirable in our time as car owners. With that in mind, what’s the most embarrassing car you’ve ever owned?

I’ll go first because I haven’t owned just one embarrassing car but quite a few if I’m totally honest. Thankfully, our lead image wasn’t one of them but we’ll come back to it a little later. Despite being a die-hard car person, my third car was a 2002 Buick Regal LS.

For those of you who don’t know, Buick is not a company that makes fast cars. They don’t even make fun cars, and the Regal, despite being hard to kill and very comfortable, made me look about 70 years old wherever I went. To remedy the problem I did what every young person does. I cut the exhaust off and had a good friend help me build a new one.

Of course, the Buick while embarrassing wasn’t as bad as the 2000 Ford Explorer Sport that I owned (and also hacked the exhaust off of) for a time or the 1996 Toyota Camry that I ran the oil out of before it seized the engine (because I didn’t have a fully formed brain then).

The most important part of this QOTD is that it’s an embarrassing vehicle and I say that because the person driving that toy-bedazzled Chevy pickup in our lead image was anything but embarrassed about it. I kid you not when I say that I watched him go into a second-hand store wearing little more than holy jeans and some flip-flops before watching him proudly walk back out with more toys for the truck.

What this rule does is open the category up to cars that aren’t actually embarrassing to drive but that we thought were at one time in our life. For example, I learned to drive in a Jeep XJ Cherokee Sport 2-Door which I hated at the time. Today, I wish I still had it because it was a cool little runabout that would still be worth something.
