Getting a chilly reception at the dealership is normally a bad thing, but it’s par for the course at Polestar’s showroom in Rovaniemi, Finland.

More snowroom than showroom, the temporary Polestar Space embraces Scandinavian design and is made entirely out of snow.

The 39 foot (12 meter) tall cube resides in Kansalaistori square and was built by Frozen Innovation, which specializes in building snow and ice installations ranging from bars to hotels.  This was the company’s first snow cube and it took approximately 20 days to build.

Polestar Opens Unique Showroom Made Completely Out Of Snow

This was easier said than done as 3,000 cubic meters of snow was hauled in – on electric trucks – from the nearby Ounasvaara ski resort.  The team then went to work turning that snow into a Polestar showroom.

As Frozen Innovation CEO Taavi Heikkila explained, this was a complex process which first saw the team create a “protective snow layer” around the base of the showroom.  The company then put up special molds for the walls, which were then filled with snow that was compacted.  With the walls in place, the molds were removed and the team went to work adding finishing touches and installing ice sculptures made by local artists.

While that’s an overly simplified look at the construction process, the end result is an impressive structure that features 6.5 foot (2 meters) thick walls and a dome-shaped ceiling.  Besides being an architectural spectacle, the showroom houses a Polestar 2 as well as ice sculptures depicting wheels, suspension parts, and brakes.

That’s undeniably cool, but the facility is also a functioning Polestar Space where guests can learn more about the company and its vehicles.  Visitors can also get a test drive in a Polestar 2.

The ‘snowroom’ opened on January 10th and will operate until February 26th.  Once the facility closes, the snow will be returned to the ski resort to “close the loop.”
