An incident involving Tesla on Tesla violence was recently filmed inside a tunnel in Hong Kong. The accident saw a Model Y collide with a curb inside the tunnel, and then careen into a Model S going the opposite direction.

Footage of the incident, which occurred on January 12, 2023, at around 1:00 a.m. was posted on Youtube and Facebook. Hong Kong News reports that the collision happened in the Hung Hom Cross-Harbour Tunnel, between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.

The accident was caused by a black Tesla Model Y, which was entering the tunnel. Its driver seems not to notice that there is a jog in the road, with a curb that grows out of the wall and runs along the side of the tunnel.

The crossover hits the curb, which sends it careening to the right, into the opposing lane of traffic. It’s hard to say with certainty what was going on inside the vehicle, but it appears that the Model Y actually accelerates into the opposing lane, suggesting that the driver may have mistakenly hit the accelerator pedal instead of the brake.

That sends the Model Y into the path of a silver Model S and gives the sedan driver almost no time to react and nowhere to go, leading inevitably to a collision. Photos of the aftermath of the accident show that the damage was pretty severe, with the airbags deployed, the hoods crumpled, and both front bumpers significantly broken.

Hong Kong news reports that three people were injured in the incident and sent to hospital, including the drivers of both EVs and one passenger. A third car, meanwhile, that was following the silver Tesla also suffered damage after it was unable to stop in time.

It is not known if the driver of the Model Y simply wasn’t paying close enough attention and ran into the curb, or if other factors (such as a driver assistance system) were involved. By the way, both the Model Y and the Model S were named some of the safest vehicles of 2022 by Euro NCAP.
