Boat launches can be tough. Trailers make driving harder at the best of times, and backing them into a body of water and coordinating your moves with another vehicle is one of the most technically tricky things a normal driver is likely to do. Unfortunately, trying to manage it all can all lead to some boneheaded mistakes.

That’s the difficult lesson the driver of a Honda CR-V learned recently. In a video uploaded by TikTok user Jamie Keaney (here’s a mirror for those who need it), the SUV can be seen slowly, painfully, almost mournfully being consumed by the water.

The video starts at a boat launch and although it’s unclear what specifically is happening, there is a jet ski behind the CR-V, suggesting that the watercraft was either being launched or picked up.

The driver of the Honda leans her head out of the open door, and although it’s not quite clear what’s happening, I would hazard to guess that she is attempting to communicate with the person on the jet ski.

Whatever the reason, she eventually exits the vehicle entirely, despite all four of its wheels already being in the water. It would appear that as she gets out of the SUV, she lets her foot off the brake, and it starts rolling backwards into the water.

She quickly notices what’s happening, and tries to get back in, but is knocked over by her open door and falls into the water. And that’s where apparent panic turns into what looks like a painful combination of disbelief and dismay.

The CR-V slowly rolls farther and farther away from reachability, and photos of the aftermath show the vehicle completely submerged. As it goes down, the windshield wipers turn themselves on automatically, trying their best, but failing to help at all.

I can’t help but feel bad for this person who was unfortunate enough to be the one to remind us just how bad the consequences of one whoopsie can be.
