A selection of patent images and teasers from China has revealed that the distinctive HiPhi Z all-electric sedan is about to receive a performance-focused variant that will be even more powerful and quicker.

In standard form, the HiPhi Z has a pair of electric motors that combine to churn out 672 hp and 605 lb-ft (820 Nm) of torque. Those are solid numbers for an electric sedan but with vehicles like the Tesla Model S Plaid, Lucid Air Sapphire, Zeekr 001 FR, and a forthcoming tri-motor version of the Porsche Taycan all delivering over 1,000 hp, there’s certainly a market for an even more powerful version of the Z.

Teasers and patent images reveal that this new version of the Z has undergone a radical aerodynamic transformation. The front end has been thoroughly revised and includes a new splitter with large fins on the outer edges. HiPhi has also designed a new hood for the car that appears to have a channel running under a small spoiler just above where the license plate will sit.

These images also show that the potent HiPhi Z variant will rock a set of unique wheels and have bespoke side skirts with large fins attached to the rear doors. Whereas the Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire are subtle, this Z is anything but. The most outlandish changes can be found at the rear where there are a pair of spoilers attached to the roof and a more overt diffuser.

Technical details about the ultimate version of the Z are not yet known but the publication of teaser images suggests to us that we won’t have to wait long to see it in the flesh. If we were to guess, we’d suggest that it will adopt a tri-motor setup like its rivals and punch out over 1,000 hp. The bold aerodynamic changes made also lead us to believe that it will generate much more downforce than the Model S Plaid and Air Sapphire.
