The Tesla Cybertruck is inching closer to reaching the hands of customers after four years of waiting and when it does hit the market, it will immediately draw comparisons with its most direct rival, the Rivian R1T.

While it is impossible to say how the Cybertruck will match up against the R1T given that final specifications for the Tesla have not yet been announced, a handful of images have been published that show R1Ts sitting alongside Cybertruck prototypes, giving us an idea of how the two match up in terms of size.

The first series of images were shared to a Rivian group on Facebook by Ken McConnell and show his R1T alongside a Cybertruck. The designs of the two couldn’t be any more different and it’s immediately obvious that the Tesla is longer than the R1T while sitting slightly lower. It also appears as though the bed of the Tesla is quite a bit longer than the R1T but the angled roof line may impede headroom in the Cybertruck’s second row.

It’s also hard not to notice how dirty and inconsistent the stainless steel exterior panels of the Cybertruck are, making it feel far less premium than the nice matte paint of the Rivian.

The second set of images was shared to the Cybertruck Owners Club forum and shows a blue R1T parked next to another Cybertruck prototype. The size difference between the two is less apparent in these images but there’s no denying that the relatively low and wide stance of the Cybertruck is unique in the pickup industry.

Tesla had better bring its A-game with the Cybertruck if it is to create a pickup that’s more well-rounded than the R1T. The flagship Quad Motor version of the R1T delivers 835 hp and 908 lb-ft (1,231 lbs) of torque and has 62 cubic feet of storage space, can support a payload of 1,764 lbs (800 kg), and tow up to 11,000 lbs (4,989 kg). The Rivian also boasts up to 14.9 inches (378 mm) of ground clearance thanks to its adjustable air suspension system and can ford more than 3 feet (91 cm) of water.
