The Tesla Cybertruck is barely a month away from release and yet there are many details that the public doesn’t know. One of them is exactly how much the electric vehicle will cost. Now, one poster to the Cybertruck Owners Facebook group evidently leaked tri-motor pricing and it’s almost six figures.

Back in the pre-pandemic days of 2019, Tesla announced the Cybertruck and said it would come in three flavors. Single motor for $39,900, Dual-Motor for $49,900, and Tri-Motor for $69,900. NHTSA documents have already put an end to the idea that a single-motor version is coming anytime soon.

Now, this anonymous poster online claims that he has an early reservation and that Tesla called him directly to confirm he would pay for the truck. Evidently, the rep gave this person the choice of a dual-motor or tri-motor truck. The poster doesn’t mention dual-motor pricing but does say that the tri-motor would be $98,990 and that doesn’t include tax, title, and licensing fees.

We should be clear here that we don’t have any internal confirmation that this figure is accurate. At the same time, it does sound somewhat reasonable given a few things that we do know for certain. Elon Musk himself said earlier this year that pricing wouldn’t be as low as initially intended.

He has often cited inflation as a major concern and if we consider inflation in the pricing of the Cybertruck it would put the Tri-Motor version at about $91,000 today compared to its originally promised price of $69,900. Those two figures, $91,000 and $98,900 really aren’t all that far off and it would indicate that the Dual-Motor Cybertruck starts around $78,000.

Guess what? The Rivian R1T starts at $73,000 but add just about any option and you’ll be hovering around $78,000 or more. The Ford F-150 Lightning technically starts at just $49,995 but we’ve documented before that most will struggle to find it for anywhere near that price thanks to greedy dealers.

All of this is to say that it wouldn’t be totally shocking to see the Cybertruck priced at or around $98,990. Is that fair after making customers wait so long for this truck after promising it earlier? Tesla’s customers will have to be the ones that decide that.
